This session will take attendees through their identified top 5 strengths and will provide real examples of how knowledge of these strengths has improved work in local health departments and within individual teams. Learn how your dominant talents help you excel, and begin your path to better performance and higher engagement. Intended as an introduction to strengths, this solution is ideal for people who want a quick, focused approach to strengthsbased development. Registration for this session will also include a copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book that will be available onsite for attendees. PLEASE NOTE: To get the most out of this session, we do ask that all attendees complete the online assessment prior to the conference to discover your top 5 strengths. You will receive an access code to complete this assessment once your registration for the event is received by the WPHA office. Complete the assessment by July 21 in order to share your strengths with our facilitators. The WPHA office will follow-up to collect your strengths as the report will be sent to you directly. KEYNOTE PRESENTERS Wednesday, August 9 9:15-10:15 a.m. Keynote Presentation: Foundational Public Health Services Framework Susan Zahner, DrPH, MPH, RN- University of Wisconsin-Madison Public health practice continues to adapt to incorporate new evidence to address emerging and ongoing population health needs. This adaptation is occurring in the midst of the puzzle of fiscal challenges and evolving frameworks defining public and population health service delivery. This presentation will help public health nurses make sense of contemporary frameworks, including the Foundational Public Health Services Framework and the Determinants of Population Health, that are driving public health practice and health care system improvement efforts. Public health nurses will also gain an appreciation for the skill-set required for practice using these frameworks, including finding, understanding, and using evidence; functioning through inter-professional teams; and partnering with communities across organizational boundaries. 3
5 KEYNOTE PRESENTERS continued... Susan J. Zahner, DrPH, RN, FAAN, is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Nursing, with an affiliate appointment with the School of Medicine and Public Health. She holds an undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Iowa, a Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota, and a Doctor of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zahner has over thirty of professional experience in public health and nursing. She mentors graduate students and conducts research in local public health system performance, multi-sector health improvement partnerships, and public health nursing education and practice. Dr. Zahner is Co-Director of the Wisconsin Public Health Research Network. Wednesday, August 9 2:00-3:00 p.m. Keynote Presentation: Intimate Partner Violence - A Cry for Community Support Susan Perry, Author From Beneath the Tarp A current overview of Wisconsin domestic violence statistics will be offered including a brief review of the Governor s Council Long Range Plan for a Safe Wisconsin. Because the Public Health workforce is critical in assisting with the identification of victims, strategies and red flags will be identified. Glimpses of a person story will be reflective of the magnitude of this social injustice. Susan Perry is a mother of five and a grandmother of twelve. Nursing has been her career for her entire adult life and currently teaches at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. As a survivor of spousal abuse, she became an avid advocate for women and has spoken to groups of survivors and professionals around the state. Last year her personal story of abuse and redemption was published, entitled From Beneath the Tarp. She received the Courage Award from Governor Walker s Council on Domestic Abuse for 2016, and has subsequently been appointed to serve a three-year term on this gubernatorial council. 4
