Welcome to Ask the Carrier Rochester RHIO March 29, 2017

Today s Discussion What is the Rochester RHIO? How long have we been around in the community? What do you hope to walk away with after today s presentation? How do you connect to RHIO in your daily activities?

RHIO Packet Materials Presentation Patient Brochure (Trifold) RHIO Service Brochures Consent Forms (Standard and Minor) Information for Minor Consented Services Frequently Asked Questions about Minor Consent Data Contributor List Survey

Today s Agenda ATC Submitted Q&As RHIO Facts Tools & Resources Consent Review Our Services Initiatives & New Projects Q&As

ATC Submitted Q&As Q1. Are we still supposed to call RHIO when there are multiple patient records for one person? A1. Yes. Contact our Support Center at or enter an online support request on our Provider Portal at Click Support Request.

ATC Submitted Q&As Q2. When a patient checks I GIVE CONSENT on the consent form, how long is it good for? A2. Consents are evergreen and are good until the patient changes their consent choice by signing a new form.

*Remember, participating organizations should store a copy of all signed consent forms on paper or electronically. ATC Submitted Q&As Q3. Should all of our consent forms be faxed to the RHIO? A3. No. The STANDARD consent forms should not be faxed to the RHIO unless we request them for audit purposes*. However, MINOR consent forms should be faxed to the RHIO 100% of the time.

ATC Submitted Q&As Q4. Do you need to have an EHR in order to be connected with RHIO services? A4. Some of our services are web-based and do not require connectivity to an EHR/EMR, such as Explore, DIRECT messaging, and Alerts. Services requiring an EHR are built on fully integrated connectivity like MyResults Delivery, Contribute.

RHIO FACTS

RHIO Facts Who we are: Secure, Health Information Exchange (HIE) Founded in 2006 Nonprofit, community-run organization serving 13 counties 89% of area Physicians benefit from one or more RHIO services More than 1.4 million unique consented patients Our Goal: Better information for better patient care by providing authorized participants access to patient health information. Current Focus: Bring more comprehensive picture of patient to community by increasing data available in HIE.

RHIO Facts SHIN-NY Statewide Health Information Network of NY is a network of networks 8 Qualified Entities (RHIOs) by Geographic Region Link:

RHIO Facts Rochester RHIO s impact has been proven! One of the single most important elements of patient care in our community and across the country is access to information. This improves quality by reducing medical errors, creating efficiencies, reducing costs by quelling redundant testing, and creating a common language for a care team to use. Bridgette Wiefling, MD, Rochester Regional Health In the past decade and a half, the scientific evidence base of health information exchange and interoperable health information technology has grown exceedingly. By my count, 16 scientific, peer-reviewed journal articles are the product of the Rochester RHIO s willingness to partner with academia for research and evaluation activities. Joshua Ryan Vest, PHD, MPH (Indiana University and Purdue University)

RHIO Facts Rochester RHIO use in ED Study shows use of Rochester RHIO cuts costs for emergency doctors, who often need to make quick treatment decisions based on scant information, the clinical benefits of a RHIO s fast access to patient health histories or imaging studies are incalculable -Dustin Riccio M.D., Chairman of Unity Emergency Department. RBJ 2014 Note: Studies were conducted in Rochester with the use of Rochester RHIO s data. Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College. Three studies have been published by peer-reviewed journals and demonstrate significant savings in system efficiency and improved health care quality.
