3 Title: Dynamics of a Professional CNA Program Description This presentation is highly interactive. The audience exchanges ideas and information on the topic of professionalism. The speaker uses a combination of story telling and directed questions to maximize the CNAs benefit from this energizing session that builds upon the group s values and norms. The caregivers will leave with a clearer understanding of their role as professionals. This will be accomplished by evaluating specific competencies, behaviors, and expectations of the various stake holders, to include residents, their families, peer groups, and the facility. Title: CNA Leadership: Moving Quality of Care towards Excellence This workshop is intended to assist CNAs in terms of developing leadership skills. The material is presented using lecture and directed discussion method. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts and observations on leadership in the LTC environment. Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will possess the necessary knowledge base to assume basic leadership functions within the facility. This will be accomplished by addressing leader competencies and techniques. Title: Maximizing Team Productivity The presenter will elaborate on some of the fundamentals of team building and will transition into how to get the most out of your team in terms of productivity. The speaker will use a combination of directed discussion and lecture to share the information. The participants will be encouraged to actively participate in the workshop. The payoff for CNAs is they will come away from the workshop having an enhanced understanding of how to get more out of their team. Upon the completion of this workshop the participants (CNAs) will be able to apply concepts related to increasing team productivity. The goal will be accomplished by addressing core concepts associated with team building, establishing the team s goal, defining objectives, and identifying the various talents necessary to achieve success. Title: Preparing for Survey A CNAs Guide to Excellence during the Survey Process This is a presentation on the subject of the survey process. The presenter will use directed discussion to share a host of information about the whys and how s of survey. CNAs will learn about everything from why the survey process is generally perceived as negative to quality indicators. They will come away from the session with a detailed understanding of the survey and how they impact that process. At the completion of this informative session, the participants (CNAs) will possess a broader understanding of the survey process.
4 Program Description Title: Following Care Plans Speaker: Gwen Suntken Care planning is an essential part of healthcare, but is often misunderstood or regarded as a waste of time. Without a specific document delineating the plan of care, important issues are likely to be neglected. Care planning provides a "road map" of sorts, to guide all who are involved with a patient/resident's care. This session will review components of care plans, why they are used, and how CNA s can have valuable input on development and implementation of care plans. Title: Healthcare and Hospitality Speaker: Ginny Kirschling Hotel service in a long term care facility? Seems far-fetched, but this session will assist the direct care worker to focus on the concepts of hospitality and customer service within the long term care setting. Participants will discuss the meaning of hospitality ; who is the primary customer; how to enhance the patient experience; and the benefits of good customer relations.

Gwen Suntken, RN BC, RAC-MT, C-NE, MS, is a Nurse Consultant and Long Term Care Educator for LTC Resources.
