Trial of a NEW SERVICE in partnership with the NHS and your local doctor The Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions Free Medicines Delivery Repeat Prescriptions arranged for you Pharmacy2U delivering health
The Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions Your GP is now able to send your prescriptions electronically to a partner pharmacy. Benefits for you: For repeat prescriptions, you will no longer need to request or collect them from the surgery and then take them to the pharmacy. This will all be done for you. Should you wish, the pharmacy will also contact you to remind you when you need your repeat prescription and order it for you. You will no longer need to take a prescription to the pharmacy. There is no longer a risk of you losing your prescription. Your medicines will be sent to you at home or at work. Delivery is free. 2 If you would like to take advantage of this service, just fill in the tearoff form with your details, exemption status and proof of exemption and then send it in the freepost envelope provided. You will still need to see your doctor as before for consultations and reviews, although you will not have to visit the surgery to order routine repeat prescriptions. Rest assured, you will continue to receive all the medicines your doctor prescribes. If you choose to take part in the trial, you may at any time opt to have a paper prescription or opt out of the service completely. for advice, call Freep
How does this service work? Your GP will send your prescriptions to the pharmacy electronically, who will then dispense as usual and deliver the medicines to you. The medicines must be signed for on delivery. There is no charge for this delivery. They will also send you the list of medicines you can order on repeat if that applies to you. If you pay for your prescriptions you can pay by debit card or credit card. You can talk to the pharmacist at any time by calling Should you wish, the pharmacy will contact you to remind you when you need a repeat prescription and order it for you. These medicines will be sent to you once approved by your doctor. There is no delivery charge. You will still need to see your doctor as before for consultations and reviews, although you will not have to visit the surgery to order routine repeat prescriptions. How will I get my next repeat prescription? You can send your request for repeat prescriptions to the pharmacy using the list sent to you, by phone, by post or by using a website. The pharmacist will then order your repeat prescription from your doctor. Once your prescription has been approved, the pharmacy will then send your medicines to you at home or at work. The medicines must be signed for on delivery. Delivery is free. Should you wish, the pharmacy will contact you to remind you when you need a repeat prescription and order it for you. You choose how you wish to be contacted, if at all. We can phone you or you. Alternatively, you can order your repeat prescription with your doctor as usual. hone
Which pharmacy will I get my medicines from? Your GP surgery is working in partnership with Pharmacy2U Ltd., the UK s first mail order pharmacy. Pharmacy2U is registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and is helping to lead the development of electronic prescriptions by working in partnership with the NHS and your doctor. Why is this service not available at all surgeries and pharmacies? This surgery is taking part in a pilot selected by the NHS to test if electronic prescriptions can be more convenient and result in better patient care. In addition to the benefits to the patient, it is hoped that electronic prescriptions will allow the NHS prescription service to be more efficient for doctors, pharmacists and the NHS. The pilot involves a small number of selected surgeries and pharmacies. Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions will be available at all surgeries and pharmacies over the next few years. What if I change my mind? You may at any time decide to receive a paper prescription on a particular occasion or choose not to have any more electronic prescriptions at all. This service does not affect your right to have your prescription dispensed at the pharmacy of your choice. However, if you wish your prescription to be sent electronically, it can only be sent to the participating pharmacy. 4 for advice, call Freep
Who will be able to see my prescription? Only those healthcare professionals who need to see it. The only people who will have access to the information on your prescription are those who have access now: your doctor, the pharmacy and the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA). The PPA is part of the NHS and responsible for paying pharmacists for dispensing NHS prescriptions. What if I need my medicines straight away? As your electronic prescription will be sent to Pharmacy2U, your medicines will normally be delivered to you on the next working day. If you have an urgent prescription it can be printed on paper as normal to be dispensed at a local pharmacy. Is this system secure? Yes this system is very secure. Prescriptions are sent directly from the surgery to the pharmacy. All prescriptions are encrypted which means that only your doctor, the pharmacy and the PPA can read them. What do I need to do? If you wish to take advantage of this service, simply complete the enclosed consent form and post it in the Freepost envelope provided. If you do not wish to take advantage of this service you don t have to do anything. Your prescriptions will be printed onto paper as before. If you have any queries about this service you can ask for more information at your surgery or on the Helpline number at the bottom of this page. As part of this pilot you may be approached by a researcher from Newcastle University to ask you about your experience of the trial. hone
How to Get Involved It is easy to get involved. Follow the steps below and your first filled prescription will be delivered to you shortly. 1. Carefully read the information in this leaflet and the letter from your GP. 2. If you want to take part in the trial and have your repeat prescription medicines delivered to your door for free, fill in the forms on pages 7 and 8. Post your completed forms in the Freepost envelope enclosed along with your proof of exemption from NHS charges if appropriate. 3. If you are not sure how the pilot will work, please phone us free on Your GP will be told that you are taking part in the trial. 5.
