7 Discussion Questions/Participation 20% Class discussions are an essential part of learning. Students have an opportunity to interact, reflect, exchange ideas, and expand their knowledge base. The discussion questions are correlated to the assigned readings and student learning outcomes for that particular week. Some questions will focus on your basic levels of thinking (e.g. knowledge, comprehension) while other questions will expand on your higher levels of thinking (e.g. application, analysis, evaluation). All students are expected to actively participate in class discussions. The discussions are a graded assignment and will account for 20% of your Final Grade. A grading rubric that includes level of engagement will be utilized for grading purposes. Each graded discussion (total 4) is worth 5%. Please see grading scale and rubric below. Grading scale Level of Engagement Preparedness Disposition Total 40 points 30 points 30 points 100 points Rubric for Classroom Discussion Criteria Exceed Expectations Meets Expectations Unsatisfactory points points 20-0 points Level of Engagement Contributes to class discussions by offering quality ideas and asking appropriate questions; actively engages others in class discussions by inviting their comments; Contributes to class discussions by offering ideas and asking questions; engages others in class discussions by inviting their comments; Fails to contribute to class discussions; fails to invite opinions from other classmates; demonstrates little understanding of main points

Your philosophy should be purposeful and meaningful to you, and can be a great addition to your portfolio. Articulating your philosophy of nursing requires careful thought. It requires careful thought because values have to be identified before putting them into a cohesive statement. What are your values related to the profession of Nursing? You can always update or even re-write your philosophy as you advance or change roles throughout your Nursing career. Your philosophy may not be perfect or inclusive but it s an effort to clarify what you believe.
