1 Caring for the Sorrow of Pregnancy & Infant Loss a conference for the caregiver Thursday, April 21, a.m. 4 p.m. Earle Brown Heritage Center 6155 Earle Brown Drive Brooklyn Center, Minnesota

2 OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES This conference is designed for physicians, nurses, social workers, midwives, childbirth educators, postnatal educators, doulas, chaplains and other allied health professionals and students who strive to honor, support and serve patients and families who experience pregnancy and infant loss. At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be able to: Describe specific processes, practices and behaviors caregivers can use to strengthen and improve their care for patients and families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. Personalize and apply strategies that help caregivers attend to their own sorrow and healing while working with patients and families. In 1999, Cheryl Persigehl and Jonathan Flak established the Micah Abram Persigehl-Flak Memorial Fund at Abbott Northwestern Hospital following the death of their infant son. Their vision was to provide resources to help educate and equip all clinicians to serve patients and families experiencing the devastating loss of an infant with the same skilled, compassionate care they received. In the fall of 2004, Cheryl and a small group of Allina clinicians and patients came together to begin planning the first Caring for the Sorrow conference. The conference was held in the spring of 2005 with 104 clinicians in attendance. In the past 10 years, 5 additional conferences have been convened and over a 1,000 clinicians from across the region have participated. What past participants have said: This was an awesome conference in every aspect. Speakers and topics were very relevant and helpful. Well worth the time and expense! So glad I was able to attend. The information is useful and meaningful. The conference is always well organized. I never find myself getting restless or bored at this conference. I find it helpful not only in my career, but also personally. PERINATAL HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE KEYNOTE SPEAKER Stefan J.
