6 Speaker Biographies Day One Mary Boutette (MHA) is currently the Chief Operating Officer at The Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre, a seniors care organization with 450 long-term care beds, 139 seniors apartments, and a variety of services across the care continuum. She has over 13 years health leadership experience in strategy development and execution, strategic human resources and performance improvement. Prior to joining Perley Rideau, Mary worked at The Ottawa Hospital, where she held numerous roles in operations, quality improvement and organizational development, including Director of Service Excellence and Director of Quality and Patient Experience. Mary is passionate about partnering with patients, families and team members to make healthcare better. Mary holds a Master in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science, Life Sciences, from Queen s University. She is Lean Greenbelt and is a graduate of the first cohort of the IDEAS Advanced Training Program in Quality Improvement, sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Mary lives in Ottawa with her husband Jason and daughters Claire and Kathryn. Dr Elizabeth Muggah (MD) is a practicing Family Physician at the Bruyere Academic Family Health Team in Ottawa and an Assistant Professor with the University of Ottawa Department of Family Medicine. She is also the Director of Quality Improvement for the Department of Family Medicine. Prior to joining the Department of Family Medicine she practiced as a community family physician in Canada, the United States and Switzerland focusing on the care of vulnerable and underserved populations. She has a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University. Ellen Odai (OT Reg. (Ont.), MHA) is currently the Manager, Quality, Risk and Client Experience at the Champlain CCAC. Ellen s background and experience are multifaceted; she has worked as an occupational therapist on the Geriatric Assessment Unit of The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), a Care Coordinator at the Champlain CCAC, and in diverse roles at TOH as a Specialist in Patient Advocacy, a consultant to TOH s Interprofessional Model of Patient Care (TOH IPMPC ) and as a Quality Improvement Coordinator. Ellen holds a BSc. in Psychology from Carleton University and a BSc. in Occupational Therapy from Queen s University. She received her Masters of Health Administration from the Telfer School of Management in 2012 and was a recipient of the 2012 Robert Wood Johnson Award. Ellen is certified as a LEAN Green Belt and is a Certified Improvement Advisor from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

7 Speaker Biographies Day Two Rebecca Brooke s (BSc, MA) work in healthcare began in public health laboratories, and she soon became interested in system-level improvement. Her passion is for engaging with the human side of healthcare to drive change. Rebecca is a LEAN Process Improvement Specialist at the Children s Hospital of Eastern Ontario where she supports continuous improvement in the perioperative and medicine programs. She has previously worked at The Ottawa Hospital and the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council. She is a graduate of the Quality Academy professional development program in quality improvement and holds a LEAN Green Belt. Suzanne Dionne (CPA-CGA) is a CPA/CGA with a BSC from the University of Ottawa, and a Masters of Health Information Science from the University of Victoria underway. Suzanne is currently the Chief Finance and Information Officer at the Cornwall Community Hospital with responsibility for finance, IT, health records, registration and employee scheduling. Previously Suzanne was the Senior Director of Health System Accountability at the Champlain LHIN for 7 years, and prior to that the Director of Decision Support at The Ottawa Hospital. Suzanne has served on many committees at the regional (LHIN), provincial (Ministry of Health, Health Quality Ontario, and Ontario Hospital Association), and national (CIHI) levels to provide her expertise in the areas of performance measurement, case costing, working capital, and various funding formula topics. Dr. Edmund Kwok (MD, FRCP(C), MHA, MSc), after obtaining a medical degree at Queen's University, Ed received his FRCPC training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, followed by a fellowship in Health Administration at the Telfer School of Management. His academic interests include ED flow, Quality Improvement, and Patient Safety. Ed has led large healthcare change projects such as the development of ED Surge Plans, improvement of Door-to-Transfer time for stroke patients, and the implementation of structured hospital-wide M&M processes. He blogs at "the Front Door to healthcare" ( frontdoor2healthcare.wordpress.com), and you can follow him on Julie Latreille (RN, MS), our guest speaker for today, has a bachelor of nursing science from the University of Ottawa and a Master s degree in Informatics from the University of Colorado. She completed her certificate as an Improvement Advisor from the Institute of Health Care Improvement in She is in the process of completing the requirements for certification as a Black Belt in Six Sigma. She has worked in a variety of clinical positions in a variety of hospitals. Currently works as an Improvement Specialist at Health Quality Ontario in the Quality Improvement Department.
