1 Setting up in Denmark Danske Bank in brief 8.1 Extensive branch network Danske Bank is the largest bank in Denmark and a leading player in the Scandinavian financial markets. The Danske Bank Group which includes Danske Bank, BG Bank, Realkredit Danmark, Danica Pension and a number of subsidiaries offers a wide range of financial services, including insurance, mortgage finance, asset management, brokerage, real estate and leasing services. In Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, the Group serves 3.5 million retail customers and a significant part of the corporate, public and institutional sectors. It also has a large number of international corporate clients, particularly in the northern European markets. Some 1.2 million customers use the Bank's online services. The Bank's customers in Denmark have access to an extensive network of 458 branches, several corporate banking centres, various subsidiaries and the head office in Copenhagen. Swedish customers are served by the 59 branches of Danske Bank Sweden Branch and Corporate Banking, Stockholm, as well as head office departments. In Norway customers are served by Fokus Bank, a nationwide bank with 61 branches. Danske Bank also has branches in London, Hamburg, Helsinki and Warsaw. A subsidiary in Luxembourg with representative offices in France and Spain specialises in private banking services. In 2005, Danske Bank acquired Northern Bank in Northern Ireland and National Irish Bank in the Republic of Ireland. The former has 95 branches and the latter 59. The Danske Bank Group signed an agreement with Sampo Group, in November 2006, to acquire Sampo Bank in Finland, including the bank's activities in the three Baltic states. 8.2 Insurance Danske Bank's insurance activities are concentrated in the Danica Pension insurance group, which conducts extensive life and pension business under its own brand name. 40
2 8.3 Asset Management 8.4 Staff The Bank also has a large volume of business in asset management for institutional and life insurance clients, among others, both in Denmark and abroad. By a continual development of its capable staff and innovations in its IT infrastructure, the Group strives to tailor its services to the needs of all of its customers. Including its insurance operations, the Danske Bank Group has about 19,000 employees. 8.5 Financial strength The Group will continue to expand its activities in order to take advantage of promising business opportunities. Its considerable capital strength enables it to pursue this policy while continuing to adapt existing activities to the increasingly competitive market situation. The financial accounts for 2006 included the following key figures: Total assets: DKr2,739bn Shareholders' equity: DKr95bn Solvency ratio: 11.4% Subordinated debt: DKr49bn Profit before tax: DKr18,497m At the end of 2006, Danske Bank had an estimated 298,000 shareholders. Two shareholder groups reported holding at least 5% of its share capital. The Bank estimates that about 35% of its share capital is held outside of Denmark. 8.6 Cash Management & Trade Finance 8.7 International Trade Promotion Danske Bank has arranged for many of its payment services, for both local and cross-border transfers, to be used in conjunction with foreign trade services. These services include clean payments, office banking systems, documentary credits, collections, foreign guarantees and cash management products. International Trade Promotion (ITP) offers services to companies setting up in Denmark. When establishment projects get underway ITP makes the first contact with local authorities. 41
