3 MY JOURNEY AS A RECRUITING MANAGER HIRED OVER 100 PEOPLE IN 12 YEARS: FTE Language Specialists for 13 locales (FIGS, Russian, Polish, Dutch, Flemish, LatAm Spanish, French Canadian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified + Traditional Chinese). For all our site launches, I also hired a minimum of 3 contractors who worked on-site for 6 months or more. FTE Machine Translation Language Specialists (MTLS) for three geographies: Russia, Brazil and Latin America, as well as two contractors to support them during site launch.

4 WHY DO WE THINK THERE IS A GLOBAL TALENT GAP When hiring linguists, we put the bar very high: Our L10N Linguists (LS) need to have a B.A or M.A in Translation from reputable institutions in the US or abroad Our Machine Translation Language Specialists (MTLS) typically need a degree in Linguistics, a translation background and be savvy on the technical side All our hires also need to fit in the culture of our team: We need creative, forward-thinking candidates who also fit in with our ebay values

5 TO GET HIRED AS A LINGUIST AT EBAY, YOU HAVE STEPS TO CLIMB You can t return a bad product to a store after 90 days, so The first step in hiring an FTE candidates is testing Our LS take a 3.5 hour timed test consisting of editing and translating ebay material it s all about performing under pressure! Our MTLS are tested during the interview process on detecting error patterns we test their analytical skills.

7 OUR OLD CHALLENGES Out of 100 people, only 6 FTEs and 14 contractors were sourced by HR/ our main outside recruiter HR doesn t understand our needs and our main recruiter cannot cover the globe, even if they do their best Some languages (Polish, French Canadian, Flemish and Dutch) are hard to come by in the US and hiring full-time from abroad is difficult And, this is the old me:

8 OUR SOLUTION We are going to the source: Universities where students are our next generation of employees We onboard interns each Summer and provide them with guidance after graduation We partner with Universities and offer on-site workshops or webinars, so students are prepared for working in companies like ours

10 ACADEMIC YEAR PARTNERING WITH US UNIVERSITIES MIIS (Middlebury Institute of International Studies) Partnership established and on-going workshops. Two Summer interns recruited for University of Maryland Partnership in discussion and program to start by the Fall of 2017 Brigham Young University - Partnership in discussion and program to start by the Fall of 2017 All programs to be customized to the curriculum of each partnering University it s a win-win situation!

11 ACADEMIC YEAR PARTNERING WITH EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES STARTING WITH NORTHERN ITALY Through our existing network TARGETING SPAIN, THE UK AND IRELAND Where many universities teach MT and embrace cooperation with tech companies PARTNERING WITH ELIA (European Language Industry Association) Potential partnership aiming at leveraging the support of this great association across Europe OUR INTERNSHIP GOALS FOR 2017 : A mix of European and US-based interns
