2 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JobTrain began its 50th year with a new three-year strategic plan developed with help from every part of the JobTrain community with clear goals and metrics and a plan to build on its foundation of success and increase our impact across the Bay Area. Like so many of our students, faced with exciting opportunities and at times difficult challenges, we have had to adapt. Through it all, the incredible team at JobTrain made sure that our students had expanded pathways to reach their potential and build life changing opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. We have met or exceeded many of the goals laid out in the first year of our three year plan. This year, 88% completed our training programs and 82% were placed in jobs. We also generated a positive economic benefit estimated at close to $15 million dollars through our training and tax refund program alone, an increase from last year. We are especially proud to have expanded partnerships that strengthened our programs and extended our impact to communities across the Bay Area. We offer high school and college credits, an expanded child care program, new medical and technology programs, and a joint venture social enterprise that will employ our students and provide much needed job experience for those most in need. However, our students face greater challenges than ever before: the cost of a place to live often far exceeds their income, even while many are working two jobs. We are looking at all options, including evening and wage supplement programs while students are in class to make sure as many people in our community as possible can participate. While JobTrain has had some great successes this year, we also faced some difficult challenges. Through it all, our Board, donors, employers, volunteers, community partners, alumni, students, and staff came together as a team to find ways to create tremendous opportunity for our community. Your enthusiasm and support are the reasons JobTrain s impact and reach has continued to grow. Thank you for making sure we can help those most in need succeed! 3 IMPACT RESULTS PROGRAM COMPLETION: 88% In Fiscal Year 2015, JobTrain s placement and retention rates for its vocational training were high: 82% were placed. 90% of those placed in Fiscal Year 2014 were still working in Fiscal Year 2015, and many had been promoted. For our population of formerly incarcerated participants, our recidivism rate is 27%, well below the expected rate of 65%.
