3 CHANGE IN METHODOLOGY A change has been introduced in the methodology of computing the Naukri Job Speak index. The Naukri Job Speak index will now not only include online jobs but also incorporate jobs acquired from existing clients by our tele-calling team. Although this data is a small component of the entire job postings on Naukri, addition of the same to the index will give a more holistic picture of the job market in India. Therefore, the Job index which is reflective of the job listings on the site has been realigned (including the jobs acquired from existing clients by our tele-calling team) from July 08 onwards. The Feb Job Speak report will show the hiring activity in India as per the new job index and the old job index. It is evident from the report that the new job index and the old job index indicate a similar hiring pattern. We will be reporting both old and the new index for the next three months and then move to the new index. Old index Only Jobs posted online by clients New Index- Jobs posted online by clients + Jobs acquired from existing clients by Naukri.com s tele-calling team On the basis of job listings added to the site every month, the data shows an increase or decline in the jobs. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 2008 have been taken on a base of The subsequent months have been indexed with data of July The report produced monthly shows hiring trends across industry sectors, geography and functional areas. There might be high volatility in the case of smaller cities, niche industries and functional areas owing to a small database More than clients use Naukri.com, leading to high reliability of the data. Naukri Job Speak has a segment on Total Jobs that indicates the movement of Total Jobs on the site. Total Jobs: (Jobs Added + Jobs Refreshed) A refreshed job is any job that was posted earlier, however has been refreshed during the month and therefore indicates that the position is still open. 3

4 OVERVIEW The Job Index for Feb-10 surges by 17% over Jan 10 indicating strong rebound in the job market The Naukri Job Speak for Feb-10 reflects renewed optimism among recruiters, thus moving the new job index up to 947 as compared to 808 in Jan-10(The new job index includes the jobs acquired from existing clients by our tele-calling team). This month the Job index has soared to an all time high in the last one year as majority of industries, functional areas and all cities have registered an increase in the job index. A similar sentiment is reflected in the old job index as well, where the index moved up by 14% in Feb 10 overjan 10. A year on year comparison of the new job index shows a 14% growth in Feb 10 over Feb 09 and the old job index also reflects a similar outlook where the index moved up by 10% in Feb 10 over Feb 09. The 'cautious optimism' that pervaded throughout last year and a half has evaporated as most industry sectors are now looking to hire. A deeper analysis of the hiring activity clearly indicates that all top cities show a positive hiring index with Chennai and Hyderabad moving up more significantly in Feb-10 over Jan 10. The recruitment in IT software and ITES sectors has seen rapid growth in hiring for the past four months. Hiring across functional areas has moved up with IT software, Sales and Production witnessing the highest growth. 4

6 CITY WISE OVERVIEW All cities show an upward moving index in Feb 10 over Jan 10 In a recent Naukri.com survey 23% people said that they would love to work in Hyderabad as opposed to other cities and the Feb job index saw Hyderabad being most bullish on hiring, with both old and the new job index moving up by 29% as and 25% in Feb 10 over Jan 10. The hiring activity for Kolkata picked up by 21% in Feb 10 after two successive months of dip in the index. Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore witnessed a growth in index by 21%, 12% and 11% in Feb 10 over Jan 10. 7 INDUSTRY OVERVIEW Hiring activity for the top 10 industry sectors shows positive growth in both new as well as the old job index Telecom sector has witnessed a 27% growth in hiring in Feb 10 over Jan 10. This is primarily because of the introduction of six to seven major operators in the country. Hiring activity for IT-software and Auto sectors moved up by 24% and Banking and Insurance sectors moved up by 14% in Feb 10 over Jan 10. On an overall level both new as well the old index indicates that most industries are on the track to bounce back to the pre recession levels. 8 FUNCTIONAL AREA OVERVIEW Both the new as well as the old index reflect that professionals in Production and Maintenance were high in demand as their index picked up after two months of successive dip in the index As indicated above IT sector has been witnessing a steady growth in hiring, similarly the professionals in IT software were high in demand as the new job index moved up by 24% in Feb 10 over Jan 10. Professionals in Sales and Accounts also witnessed an increase in the new job index by 18% and 19% in Feb 10 over Jan 10. Both the job indices indicate that the top 15 functional areas have seen an upsurge in the hiring activity. 11 ABOUT NAUKRI JOBSPEAK Naukri JobSpeak is an index of job listings added to the site every month by recruiters who are clients of Naukri.com. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 08 have been taken as a base of The charts with the corresponding numbers have been collated in the annexure. From February 2010 onwards the index will not only include online jobs but also incorporate jobs acquired from existing clients by our telecalling team. Although this data is a miniscule component of the entire job postings on Naukri, but the addition of the same to the index will give a more holistic picture of the job market in India. Therefore, the Job index which is reflective of the job listings on the site has been realigned from July 08 onwards. The Naukri.com Job Index is an initiative by Naukri.com to provide its stakeholders and users an overview on job prospects and attractive occupations as well as a peek into industries gaining attractiveness and industries losing sheen.
