Read on and get involved! Newsletter July 2017 Happy Independence Day! Project Funding Opportunity World Connect is inviting all RPCVs to apply for funding for domestic projects. Employ your creativity, interests, experiences, and skills to lead projects that

2 Employ your creativity, interests, experiences, and skills to lead projects that educate, inspire, and empower young people and communities in the United States. This opportunity is designed to be flexible and creative. They are looking for innovative and thoughtful projects that inspire young people and communities in the U.S. to act and make global connections. This can be through art, education, or any medium that inspires you! Reach out with your idea. If you need a little inspiration, check out these examples. World Connect will accept applications for grants up to $1,000* on a rolling basis through Monday, July 31, They will review, provide feedback, and make a final decision on your application within one month. Application and More Information Upcoming Events NBIB Hiring Event July 11, 2017 The National Background Investigations Bureau is currently hiring and anticipate 10+ vacancies in Miami, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tampa, Panama City, southern Mississippi and Louisiana within the next few months. See if working for NBIB would be a good fit for you by attending their hiring event. You'll be able to talk to recruiters and learn more about career opportunities for applicants with Non- Competitive Eligibility (NCE). (For all those recently returned volunteers out there, that s you!) The event will be held at the FIU main campus from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11 th. 3 July 30, 2017 Meet us at Marlins Park to see the Miami Marlins take on the Cincinnati Reds. The game is on Sunday, June 30 th at 1:10 p.m. Get a great seat, a hot dog, and a drink...all for $ Feel free to bring family and/or friends. Please RSVP by July 20 th. RSVP Willie Save the Date: Annual Retreat September 8 10, 2017 On Friday, September 8 th, RPCVSF will host our annual members retreat a relaxing weekend in Key Largo for RPCVs. Last year more than 70 RPCVs and their families and friends enjoyed a great weekend together, and we hope you ll join us this year. We ll be staying at Amy Slate's Amoray Dive Resort, a low-key waterfront location with a small beach, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and SCUBA diving available. Reservations can be made directly with the resort by calling (305) or online. Be sure to tell them you are with the Peace Corps Volunteers group for a discount on the room rate. Kids are very welcome; last year we had more than a dozen kids of all ages. There will be food, stories, snorkeling, and more. We bring all the food for Saturday s breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus snacks and drinks in the afternoon. We ask that you contribute $15 per person for food for the weekend. Please BYOB if you want an adult beverage. The retreat will be held rain or shine. If you have questions, please contact Willie Kotas. We look forward to seeing you in the Keys! More information Willie Spirit of Service-Learning Award October 14, 2017 (Date TBC) The Spirit of Service-Learning Award is back for its 6 th year. RPCVSF will be recognizing South Florida teachers who incorporate Service-Learning into

4 be recognizing South Florida teachers who incorporate Service-Learning into their curriculum. Awards will be presented to the winners at the recognition dinner in early fall. More details coming soon! If you know of anyone who uses the Service-Learning concept in their classroom, there s still time to nominate them for the 2017 award. Would you like to help find the next wave of Volunteers? Then consider applying for one of the part-time Peace Corps Campus Recruiter positions.there are currently two openings, one at Florida International University and another at the University of Miami. During the fall and spring semesters, the campus recruiter will be responsible for raising awareness of Peace Corps and generating applications on each college campus and community. The pay is $14 per hour for 20 hours per week. You must be an RPCV to apply. Russia Former RPCVSF President Tuey Murdock (Colombia) is residing in Moscow, Russia for the next three years. She s extended an invitation for visitors while she s there.
