2 CROSSING DISCIPLINES, BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS Transdisciplinary programs, projects and initiatives are becoming increasingly common at Memorial. Campuses and units are working together in new ways, with internal and external stakeholders, communities and community groups, students, faculty and staff, to conduct research and engage in innovative teaching and learning.

Memorial is a leader in publicly engaged research, with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration with industry, community, and governments.

5 OCEAN FRONTIER INSTITUTE The federal government announced on Sept. 6 nearly $100 million for the creation of the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI), an historic partnership between Memorial, Dalhousie University and the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). Memorial s OFI researchers will come from various disciplines and campuses ranging from the Marine Institute and science to engineering and the humanities and social sciences.

8 ABORIGINAL PEOPLES WEEK Faculty, researchers, students, staff and guests from the community and across disciplines gathered to present, spark dialogue, answer questions, and share their research at this first-ever week-long event. Stakeholders from Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine, Education, Social Work, Nursing, Memorial s Aboriginal Resource Office, external partners, student groups, research organizations, and more

9 THE SAFETYNET The SafetyNet Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Research is a community alliance for multidisciplinary research, knowledge exchange and education in occupational health and safety (OHS). Dedicated to improving the safety of workplaces and the health of workers in NL and Atlantic Canada through broadly-based partnerships between academic researchers and stakeholders in communities, government, industry, and labour. Focused on multidisciplinary research, knowledge exchange, education and the development of OHS expertise in the province.

10 NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR CENTRE FOR APPLIED HEALTH RESEARCH The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research (NLCAHR) is a research centre within Memorial University. Mission: To contribute to the effectiveness of the health and community services system of Newfoundland and Labrador and to the physical, social, and psychological health and well-being of the province s population by supporting the development and use of applied health research in this province.

11 INNOVATION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP Centre for Social Enterprise: A collaboration between the Faculty of Business Administration and the School of Social Work. It's a platform to support creative linkages between academic disciplines to nurture innovation in social entrepreneurship. Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship: Promotes entrepreneurship across the university and supports students and faculty interested in taking an entrepreneurial path. MCE provides programming to connect new start-ups and entrepreneurs with appropriate expertise, mentors and funding agencies. MCE is also developing joint business-engineering curricula.
