5 TSC CLOVER SALES ARE HERE AGAIN! TSC Clover Sales will take place October 7th 18th Thanks to all of you, Livingston County once again placed among the top five in clover sales at the Spring sale! This is one of the simplest fundraisers there is. All we have to do is have 2-3 members and an adult at the store(s) for specific shi:s, greet customers, and ask them to donate to 4-H. Their hope/ mission is to join together to extend to children around the world the gi of hope and love in a tangible way through a simple shoebox filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. 10 10 4-H State Youth Leadership Council - apply now! The second year of the Michigan 4-H State Youth Leadership Council applica!ons are now open. The deadline to apply is November 1. Youth (age 15-19) can complete an online applica!on at the following link: h@ps:// SYLC2016 In addi!on to the applica!on, applicants must request two adults (one being a 4-H program coordinator) to complete the reference page at the link provided at the end of the survey. The Michigan 4-H State Youth Leadership Council is intended to bring teen leaders from across Michigan together to serve as a statewide 4-H advisory group, assis!ng with promo!on, outreach and review of curriculum and programs to give authen!c youth voice in the Michigan 4-H program. The Michigan 4-H State Youth Leadership Council provides a high-level leadership opportunity for older youth to strive and a venue for 4-H professionals to obtain feedback on new programs, promo!onal efforts, etc. Further, by par!cipa!ng in the Michigan 4-H State Youth Leadership Council, youth have an opportunity to represent Michigan at the Na!onal 4-H Conference in Washington D.C. where they bring youth voice to important federal government units and decisions. Applica!on period is September through October 30 each year. 3. Scholarships winners will be announced at the Annual MAFE Conven!on. 4. Applicant must have an applica!on for or be currently enrolled in an ins!tu!on of advance learning such as a college, university or trade school. 5. Applicant may apply each year he or she is enrolled in the Ins!tu!on, but shall not be eligible to receive a scholarship more than 6 years. Preference for awarding of scholarship each year will be to first-!me applicants. 6. The scholarship can be used for any and all expenses related to the applicants con!nued educa!on. 7. The full amount of the scholarship will be paid at the MAFE Annual Conven!on. If a@endee is not present at the conven!on, the scholarship will be mailed to the address listed in the applica!on. 8. 18 18 CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is an opportunity for 4-H youth (age 14-19) to spend an entire week in Washington, DC; including a stop in Gettysburg. For 2016, our dates are June 25th-July 2nd. PLEASE NOTE: This is immediately after 4-H Exploration Days. The cost for the trip this year will be $1275. transportation, lodging, and most meals. This includes Important Dates: November 15th: $300 deposit due and CWF delegate registration form. The delegate registration form is to let us reserve spots for counties, even if they do not have their delegates selected yet. January 15th: Additional $700 of payment is due, and a complete paperwork packet for each delegate. March 15th: Additional $275 final payment is due. Promotional Materials: A brochure is available as a word file or a pdf for your convenience. There is also a Facebook-ready graphic you can post or share. Leadership Washington Focus (LWF) is a five-day summer leadership program for youth in grades 7-9 at the Na onal 4-H Youth Conference Center. 21 STATEWIDE NEWS AREA 2015 North Central Region 4-H Volunteer e-forum Do you want to grow your club program? Are you looking for a way to involve the leaders in your club? Do you want to invigorate your committee members or just discuss something new? If so, consider: Participating in one or all of this year s 4-H Volunteer e-forum sessions or Hosting a few of your fellow leaders or parents to watch the session(s). Your group can be 2 to 3 people sitting casually or a group of 200 in a banquet hall. The choice is yours. When Each session will be offered live twice so you can pick the time that works best for you. The sessions stand alone so you can attend or host one or all of them. Best of all, these three sessions are free and will provide great training by experts in the field. The sessions are: 1. The Heart of Belonging on October 8 at 7 pm or October 13 at 8 pm In this informative session, you will learn to guide youth to develop expectations that will accommodate all members to support youth with special needs and discover resources to help you in your role as a caring adult. Participants will leave with activities that will help them foster positive behavior, belonging and inclusion in their club or committee! 2. The Heart of Community on November 5 at 7 pm or November 10 at 8 pm Volunteers in this session will be prepared to help youth become actively engaged in their communities. This session will include resources and models that incorporate mastery, belonging, generosity and independence as you include citizenship activities in 4-H settings. 3. Encouraging the Heart of Leadership on December 3 at 7 pm or December 8, at 8 pm Young people do not magically become leaders at age 13! Leadership is nurtured from the first 4-H experience. You ll receive tools to help inspire youth to develop independence and mastery. How You can participate in or host one or all of these fun sessions in any location as long as you can connect live through Adobe Connect.
