To engage with 3 primary schools and 100 children from the Waveney area. Completion date of Dec 2017 Match to priority: Support and develop initiatives to improve the links between schools, colleges and employers. Support and develop initiatives to help young people raise their aspirations and find work, education or training opportunities. 2) Part 2. To set up a dedicated space/sessions in each of the Waveney High Schools to promote education and training and build links to employability skills links with employers. Completion date by July 2017 Match to priority: Explore ways to reduce the practical barriers to accessing training and employment, such as the cost and availability of transport and accommodation. Support and develop initiatives to link schools, colleges and employers Support and develop initiatives to help young people raise their aspirations and find work, education or training opportunities. Raise awareness of Apprenticeships. 3) Part 3. To promote a stretch and challenge project to college students focusing on wider skills needed for employment and to be positively active members of their community. Completion by July 2017 Match to priority: Support and develop initiatives to help young people raise their aspirations and find work, education or training opportunities. Ensure access to job search and job application support is available for everyone who needs it. Raise awareness and progression into Apprenticeships and the opportunities via Work Experience

2. How has the need for this outcome(s) been identified? Each of the East Suffolk Partnership priorities included the need to support young people to become more aware of the opportunities available to them to access education and training and to overcome barriers to move into sustainable work or Apprenticeships. These 3 projects link together children and young people from the age of 9-18 by working in partnership with schools, employers and other support organisations. 3. Who will benefit from the outcomes(s)? Part 1. Young children will be supported to understand what post 16 education and training can offer and how education leads to employment and the pathway to get there. Giving primary school children the experience of visiting a post 16 establishment and to experience the types of courses on offer and the jobs they can lead to. This also gives children the opportunity to meet local employers and understand the opportunities in the area. Part 2. Eleven to sixteen year olds will be able to access a dedicated resource in 4 high schools across the area to provide direct links with the college and employers. These areas would help raise aspirations and knowledge regarding education and training options. Support the transition from high school to post 16, Apprenticeships, Higher Education and employment. Part 3. Students would develop work ready skills and direct experience gained with employers. Additional benefits Support local schools, the college, employers and other NEETS by having stronger partnerships and focus on work skills from a younger age. Continue to strengthen the links with other organisations, including Lowestoft Rising, Mygo, Access Community Trust and University of Suffolk all with the aim of highlighting education and training opportunities. Engage children and young people to look at careers options and access to specialist vocational staff and other social support needed to access these. Children and young people having the opportunity to explore pathways and training into work or Apprenticeships. Supporting employers to have access to confident and trained young people. 4. How will the outcome(s) be sustained after the funding has run out (if appropriate)? Joint project bids from school and college to support further development. Partnership funding across the schools and college. 5. Name of Project/activity that will deliver the outcome(s) Transition to Employment 6. Brief description of the project / activity that will deliver the outcome(s). To work in partnership and improve links with primary schools, high schools and employers to help young people raise aspirations and find work, education or training opportunities. The

project would bring together education, employers, Lowestoft Rising and other support organisations including MyGo and Access Community Trust. This project also links closely to the Social Mobility Agenda and the opportunity to continue to build on existing work and initiatives being led by East Suffolk Partnership and Lowestoft Rising. It offers new access to enrichment opportunities to children and young people from across the area including deprived wards in rural locations. The project would also work together with the University of Suffolk on their widening participation initiative. Activities will support young people to develop an understanding of the personal skills, education and training needed to find work and be a positively active member of a community including Waveney, across the UK and internationally. The project will include three elements: Part 1. Primary School Introduction to Post 16 and skills for work. Forge links with a number of primary schools across the Waveney district to introduce post 16 education and training and what it can offer. Give primary school children the opportunity to visit the college and experience taster activities linked to employment, Higher Education, Apprenticeships and meet employers during the taster activities or at specific events. This would include an Engineering engagement event, involving Roman Hill Primary and Somerleyton Primary Schools and Lowestoft Rising. Part 2. High School - Transition to Further Training, Education and world of work. Develop dedicated space in each of the high schools to promote education and training including Higher Education and Apprenticeships. The space will be used to run a programme of information, advice and guidance, tasters, employer engagement, and drop in sessions. Partners such as MYGO, Access Community Trust and University of Suffolk will also be promoted and involved in sessions with the schools agreement. We will be able to continue to build on discussions with Ormiston Denes Academy and Benjamin Brittan over use of dedicated rooms to promote Information, Advice and Guidance and deliver taster sessions. This is work we wish to develop further but have been unable to fund. In March 2015, Lowestoft College launched the Inter-School boat challenge. Seventy students from 5 local high schools attended to build model boats to a specification, which were tested in the college s survival tank and judged by guests from local industry. We wish for this event to run again in March 2017 and to extend this out to more schools, this would also include teams

from industry and industry judges. Prizes for this event will be based around site visits to employers. It is planned that a modified version of this event will be run for local special schools Ashley Academy and Warren to develop personal and employability skills. The finals for this event will be held at Waterlane Sports Centre and will again have engagement from local industry. Lowestoft College would also like to continue to hold an annual employer marketplace. In January 2015, over 65 employers and employment organisations exhibited. Attendance from Lowestoft College students and Lowestoft 6 th Form students was high, however attendance from local high schools has been low due to transport. A main aim of the 2017 event is to increase the attendance of students from local schools. Part 3. Lowestoft College Stretch and Challenge project Work based skills. This part of the project would build on the pilot currently running at the college and deliver the Stretch and Challenge programme across greater numbers of courses. The Stretch and Challenge project gives students the chance to develop a project idea in small teams that is linked to the course they are studying. Project development gives the students the opportunity to work in teams and develop work based skills such as communication, organisational, delegation and project planning. The pilot has proved a very beneficial project and needs to evolve to the next phase.

A significant number of Lowestoft College students are currently involved in projects. As the year progresses, students will be encouraged and supported in linking these projects to employer requirements. Marketing and Apprenticeships teams will mentor projects and form links between project teams and interested employers. As above, the employer marketplace is used to engage students with employers, typically for the first time. Curriculum is encouraged to link this event to associated employability skills e.g.: CV writing and interview skills. Resources are required to widen the awareness of this event and to support the engagement of work experience and site visits following the event. Project / activity START DATE (mm/yy): 7. Who is involved? Who is involved in developing this outcome proposal?
