3 What do we mean by climate technology? Climate technology is any equipment, technique, knowledge and skill needed for: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, through sectors such as: Agriculture Industry Energy Transport Forestry Waste and adapting to climate change, via sectors such as: Agriculture Forestry Business Human Health Coastal Zones/Oceans Infrastructure/Human Settlement Disaster Reduction Terrestrial Ecosystems Early Warning Tourism Education Water resources Fisheries

4 CTCN Structure The Conference of Parties and CTCN Advisory Board guide the work of the CTCN CTCN operations are conducted via: The CTC Secretariat hosted by UNEP with support of UNIDO 11 partner institutions with expertise in climate technologies An international Network of academic, finance, NGO, private and public sector institutions National Designated Entities (NDEs): national CTCN focal points selected by each country to coordinate and submit technical assistance requests to the CTCN

6 Capacity Building The CTCN strives to build and/or strengthen the capacity of developing countries to identify technology options, make technology choices and operate, maintain and adapt technology via: Training workshops Webinars CTCN Technology Portal Request Incubator Programme for Least Developed Countries I particularly liked interacting with NDEs from different countries and sharing their experiences. 7 NDE Trainings 140 individuals from 119 countries participated in intensive capacity building workshops in 2014 This workshop opened my eyes about the importance of stakeholders engagement. Participant from Middle East

8 CTCN Technical Assistance Assistance is provided: to developing countries at the request of their NDEs free of charge (with a value up to 250,000 USD) at local, national or regional levels to academic, public, NGO, or private sector entities for a broad range of adaptation and mitigation technologies Assistance is provided at all stages of the technology cycle: from identification of climate technology needs; policy assessment; selection and piloting of technological solutions; to assistance that supports technology customization and widespread deployment
