1 Funding sources for Sports coaches in Kent Information about National, Regional and Local Funding that can support you in the training and development of Sports Coaches April
2 Funding sources for Coaching Development in Kent Kent Sport have compiled an online tool that helps individuals, groups and organisations search for funding that include support for performers, group programmes and larger facility projects. Visit for further details. In addition to the sources of funding for coach education I am pleased to present you with a more detailed briefing about the current national, regional and local funding that is relevant to coaches working in Kent. Please note that some of the sources may not currently be accepting applications, however I wanted to inform you of all the possibilities as many are awaiting confirmation of extensions to funding pots. As all funding schemes are subject to change and with new programmes coming online regularly it is proposed that this document will be updated twice a year initially. However, should other sources become available in the meantime it will form part of the regular coaching communication I will be developing for Kent over the next few months. I hope you find this information helpful Louisa Arnold Kent Coaching Network Officer L.arnold@kent.ac.uk Mobile: Phone:

13 Appendix 1 SE Coaching Bursary South East Coaching Bursary FAQ s Q - Why is this bursary different to those in other regions? A - This is ESF money and as such comes with its own set of rules, regulations and deadlines. Q - Why is there only funding for UKCC? A - The LSC require all qualifications that they fund to be quality assured and on the National Qualifications Framework. Sport England, sports coach UK, and SkillsActive aim to only support qualifications that are recognised as important to the sector and identified in the Sector Qualifications Strategy. Q - What is the classification of an existing coach or volunteer? A - There are no time requirements here e.g. a volunteer could have just joined a club yesterday or been there for years. It is up to the NGB to identify the most appropriate coaches to benefit from the funding. Q - Why is there a set amount of funding and not a percentage of each UKCC cost? A - ESF allocated a set amount per learner based on an average cost across all UKCC courses. Q - Can we share out the funding to more coaches e.g. give two coaches half the funding each? A - No, the funding and targets are set per coach by ESF Q - Is this the same as the Coachability project? A - The funding for both projects comes from ESF but they are separate. Coachability is specifically for coaches with a disability and has a different application process. Coaches can t apply for both projects. Q - Can the additional funding come from another project or bursary e.g. Recruit into Coaching, School Sport Coaching Programme or CSP Coach Bursaries? A Yes Q - Do the coaches need mentors? A - Yes Q - Is there any funding to support NGB or CSP admin of the project? A No Q - What if a sport gains UKCC endorsement at Level 2 or 3 once the project has already started? A - Some places are being held back for sports in this situation and information on likely timescales for endorsement is being collected. Q - Do all the funded coaches have to attend the same course? A - You can fund a couple of places on several courses or an entire course, whatever works best for you. You will need somebody on the first day of every course to administer the ESF paperwork 13
14 Q - Can the funding be used for any other courses or qualifications e.g. mentoring or child protection? A - No. Funding is only for UKCC L2 and L3. Q - Is there any funding for training Tutors and Assessors? A - Not through this strand. There is national funding for this via the Coaching Investment Programme being managed by the National Skills Academy. Q - Do courses have to run in the South East region? A - No. Courses can run anywhere but coaches must live or coach in the South East. Please direct any coaches to the appropriate NGB contacts listed below.
