Thank you History Why we need your help How we help Thank you for choosing to support the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW). Fundraising is a rewarding way for you to get involved and help to protect Australia s precious habitats and unique threatened species. We greatly appreciate your help! This Fundraising Kit is designed to help you organise your own fundraising event/initiative. It contains everything you need to know, including guidelines, ideas and tips, and information on your responsibility as a fundraiser. Since 1970, FNPW has existed to safeguard Australia s wilderness and wildlife. To date, it has raised over $45 million for Australian conservation. FNPW is the only charity that adds land to National Parks across Australia. It has acquired over 500,000 hectares of land to create and grow 42 of Australia s National Parks and Reserves, including the Blue Mountains NP, Royal NP, Mungo NP, and the Daintree NP. FNPW has also funded over 600 scientifically-based conservation projects to save more than 100 Australian species from extinction. We always receive more requests for funding than we are able to support. Scientists, community groups, and indivdiuals have important conservation work that they cannot complete unless you help out. How we are tracking Despite funding projects in every state and territory of Australia, there were still important conservation projects that we were not able to fund. To increase our support for and invest in Australian conservation work, FNPW needs your support. By adding habitats to National Parks, and funding projects to save species, we can conserve a healthy environment for future generations. An example: In 1990, FNPW-funded scientists found there were only 150 breeding pairs of Gould s Petrels left. FNPW funded an innovative recovery program for these birds. Invasive animals were controlled, weeds causing death by entanglement were removed, and a second colony was established. Gould s Petrel numbers soared and they were removed from the NSW endangered species list! 2015 revealed Gould s Petrels breeding in a new location. 3. How to get STARTED Step one Read through this Kit and get an idea of what is involved. Step two Decide what fundraising event/ initiative you d like to organise. There are some ideas on pages 6 and 7. Step three Read through the Fundraising Guidelines and see what your event/ initative requires. Does it require permits, insurances and does it meet legal obligations? Step four Complete the Proposal to Fundraise found on page 14 & 15. Send to Emma Lipscombe, FNPW s Partnerships Manager: elipscombe@ Step five Within 14 days you will receive notification from FNPW. If successful you will be issued with an Approval Letter and a Fundraising Authority Code. This code will identify you on our system, please note this code as you are required to list it as a financial reference. Step six Create your Everyday Hero Page and commence your fundraising event/initiative. Remember to refer back to this kit as it has useful information you will need to keep updating/tracking. Step seven After your event you are required to return within 14 days to FNPW: Summary Report All funds received Donor Receipts Form, if applicable Step eight Please give your feedback to FNPW on how you found working with us and any information you believe will assist us with improving our Community Fundraising Kit. Smash your fundraising goal Setting up an online fundraising page is the easiest way to raise funds for FNPW. Don t be scared to ask for donations, because if you don t ask, you won t raise anything. Contact friends, family, and workmates to ask them to donate. Spread the word via , text and social media. Ask them to pass it on to others. 10 Tip 1 5 Fun-draising hot Tips Personalise your page - make it yours Add photos. Tell people why you re taking part, and why you chose to fundraise for the environment. And remember to regularly update them on your training progress. Have fun with it. Tip 2 Get a big first donation - others will follow suit Ask your close family and friends first as they re most likely to be generous. You can even make a donation to yourself. Then send an to errbody! Tip Tip 3 4 Talk about it and ASK - get the message out there Because don t ask, don t get. Include an ask when you post photos of your training/ event and updates about your fundraising to social media. Include an ask and link to your fundraising page in your work and personal signatures. And mention it at the watercooler :) Template letters provided can help you with corporate donations. Explain why you care - inspire your friends & family Let people know why you love the environment and want to protect it. Tell them about the exciting conservation work their donation will support via FNPW. Tip 5 Remind people - and don t give up! Do more than one social media post, ask your friends and siblings to share your fundraising page and invite support, and remember to also ask for support after the event by sharing your experience of the day and why you did it. Contribution - $90 Tip: $30 helps FNPW purchase, plant and care for 12 native trees - future homes for our native wildlife. Share your online fundraising page via social media. If just 5 friends and family donate $30 each, you ll be well on your way to your target. Contribution - $150 Total: $240 Tip: Share one of our great Facebook photos of your favourite native animal or national park. Invite 3 friends over for dinner or a Sunday brunch to enjoy a home cooked meal. Ask each friend to donate $30 or the equivalent of a night out. Contribution - $90 Total: $330 Tip: Ask 5 of your colleagues to skip buying bottled water and takeaway coffee for just two days, and instead contribute to your fundraising. Contribution - $50 Total: $380 Tip: Enjoy a uniquely Australian recipe, wine or dessert to remind everyone that our beautiful land provides so much for us. Don t forget to stock the work kitchen with some special biscuits - you might even get the whole office on board with a supply of biscuits!. Ask 4 people at your local club, school or sports team to donate $30 each. Remember... together as a team we can have a big impact supporting our unique wildlife, and of course thank everyone for their team spirit! Contribution - $120 You ve done it - $500! Please make sure you read these guidelines as they outline your responsibility as a fundraiser, as well as how FNPW can support your fundraising efforts. 12. 13 Guidelines Submit your proposal Provide insurance if required Making the donation Donation methods Before you start fundraising for your event/initiative, a Proposal to Fundraise form for Authority to Fundraise must be submitted to and approved by FNPW. Fundraising cannot take place until you have received approval. Once approved, you will receive an Approval to Fundraise letter containing your unique Fundraising Authority Code. Please quote this number when sending FNPW any donations. Keep it legal You must meet the requirements of relevant Australian and state laws and regulations, i.e. if you plan to raise more than $10,000 in Victoria you need to register as a fundraiser with Consumer Affairs Victoria (www. consumer.vic.gov.au). For more information visit the ATO s website. FNPW can also provide advice on what is required in each state. FNPW s insurance policy does not cover activities conducted by outside organisations and groups. You must ensure all appropriate and required insurance cover is organised before the fundraising event/initiative takes place. Check with local authorities If your fundraising event or initiative will be taking place in a public area, remember to check with local authorities and obtain any permits that are required. Ensure it s profitable You are responsible for ensuring the fundraising event/initiative is profitable (the event must generate an income value that is higher than the expense value incurred). You re responsible The fundraising event/initiative, including the financial aspects, record keeping and management of promotion is conducted in your name and is your sole responsibility. All monies raised must be forwarded to FNPW within 14 days from the date of the promotion terminating or as agreed by cheque or online, these details will be provided once your Proposal to Fundraise has been approved. You re in charge FNPW is not able to take a coordination role in your activity, such as soliciting prizes, organising publicity or celebrities, assisting with ticket sales or providing goods and services to assist you with running your event/initiative. FNPW logo use The use of FNPW s name and logo will only be permitted once you receive an Authority to Fundraise letter. The logo is available upon request and you will be authorised to use this logo in line with the Logo Use Guidelines provided. All promotional material must be approved by a FNPW s Communications staff member prior to it being printed or distributed. If you are using an online fundraising platform such as Everyday Hero, supporters can be directed to your fundraising page to make an online donation using a credit card. If organising an offline fundraising event, you can collect donations in cash or cheques (made out to Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife). Tax deductibility & receipts Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. If any of your donors require a receipt, please record their details on the Donor Receipt Form and send it to us at the end of your fundraising activity. We will then organise and send receipts direct to each donor. Please note, tax deductible receipts cannot be issued if goods or services are received in return for payments (e.g. an auction prize or event ticket).
