2 UWE RAG S: ADOPT A CHARITY SCHEME RAG stands for Raising and Giving and that s exactly what we do. UWE RAG are a committed group of students who organise exciting fundraising events for other students and local residents to support the community, spreading the famous RAG love! The Adopt a Charity Scheme works with Sports Clubs, Societies and individuals to help them fundraise for charities of their choice. There s also an opportunity to claim back up to 50% for your Club or Society too! So how about adopting a charity and making a lasting impact on your community? You can pick a RAG charity which your group will be passionate about supporting throughout the year with fundraising events and volunteering. The Students Union Volunteering Team can set up custom-built community projects for you to make a difference in your chosen organisation. Through these activities you ll develop new and existing skills, gain experience to enhance your CV and ensure you have a memorable time at UWE!

3 WHY ADOPT A CHARITY? You can raise money for your chosen cause & have fun through running several events over the year. It s a great way to raise money for your Society or Club as well as ensuring that local charities raise much more money than they would without your help. You will make a difference to the running of your chosen charity/impact the lives of their beneficiaries. Your Society or Sports Club will have the opportunity to build a lasting relationship with a local charity which allows you to see the impact of your donation. Charitable fundraising goes a long way towards your group being recognised at the Sports and Societies Awards, Greener Futures Award or through the UWE Bristol Futures Award!

4 ADOPTING A CHARITY, HOW? Hundreds of charities apply to UWE RAG each year so we are confident we can find your perfect match. But, if you ve got a charity in mind already that s great adopting with RAG is flexible, but it s our job to let you know about the local causes out there whose work often go unnoticed! Once you ve chosen your charity, or charities, we ll manage the finances from any funds you raise from events or collections. These will be banked with the Students Union in your RAG account until the end of the year (ensuring we meet charity law requirements for you!) Then we ll add up your totals and raise a cheque to your charity which we can either post on your behalf, or help you arrange a visit where you can present your donation with our GIANT novelty cheque! We can also help with charity visits and volunteering opportunities giving you the chance to meet the charities and service users who ll benefit from your much-needed support.

5 WHY DOES UWE RAG RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL CHARITIES? We re part of Bristol and the South West - let s give something back. You can build a lasting relationship with a local charity and directly see the difference that your donation can make meet the people you can help. Your money has a greater impact on local groups. They may only need a small donation to operate and make a massive difference. However, if you would like to donate to a national or international charity, that s also great and the RAG team will be more than happy to help. Charity Changeover Permanent adoption of a charity is great, however if you want to help more than one charity then do! You can adopt a different charity each term or from year to year.

6 HOW UWE RAG CAN HELP YOU FUNDRAISE Your Fundraising & Volunteer Support Co-ordinator If any group or individual has a fundraising idea, the Fundraising & Volunteer Support Co-ordinator and UWE RAG committee can support you with event ideas & planning, budgeting, risk assessments and insurance (whilst ensuring you stay on the right side of charity law!) Taking the boring bits off your hands Through these activities you ll develop new and existing skills, gain experience to enhance your CV and ensure you have a memorable time at UWE! Publicity We have a Facebook group and mailing list which reach thousands of students, which you can use to plug your fundraising events We hold gigantic cheque handovers where you can meet the beneficiaries, which is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your group! We can provide signs, buckets and posters with the recognised RAG brand and details of your event. We also help with your PR, letting the press know about your event and fundraising success and you ll join our Hall of Fame!

7 FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES In addition to our incredibly long list of creative and fun ideas we can share with you Online Giving You have access to our online fundraising tool for FREE! RAG Week It s your week so take control! RAG can offer advice, equipment and logistical support to help turn your fundraising ideas into reality during a city-wide week of fundraising. Anything goes from cake sales to penalty shoot-outs to Ceilidh dancing. RAG is set to help loads of Societies and Clubs raise huge amounts of money during RAG week through several different events as well as by holding different themed RAG Raids. Club Raids UWE RAG can offer you the exclusive opportunity to sell merchandise or run an activity in Students Union venues and club nights! We will provide collection buckets and merchandise to sell and free entry too! RAG Raids Throughout the year UWE RAG organise collections in and around Bristol and beyond. We can get council permits, provide labelled buckets, tins and passes to raise your profile and increase your income in a stress-free way.
