2 ... establishes the D e l o r e s B a r r W e a v e r F u n d at The Community Foundation Since she and her husband, Wayne, came to Jacksonville in 1993 to establish the community s NFL franchise, Jacksonville Jaguars, Delores Barr Weaver has influenced Jacksonville philanthropy, leading with vision and example. The Delores Barr Weaver Fund, established in late 2012 with a $50 million gift as a donor-advised fund at The Community Foundation, will continue her philanthropic traditions for years to come. The fund will invest in organizations and activities that help to improve a community's quality of life and, more importantly, that of its people in need. Mrs. Weaver will serve as the principal advisor to the fund. The fund will not accept unsolicited proposals. This gift from Delores Barr Weaver is the largest gift made to The Community Foundation in its 48-year history. For additional information, contact Nina Waters, president of The Community Foundation, J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, married February 26, 1955
3 A L E G A C Y O F G I V I N G The Delores Barr Weaver Fund is the capstone in a lifetime of giving. It is Delores Barr Weaver s ultimate gift to the Jacksonville community and builds on her rich legacy of giving. Mrs. Weaver has guided her family s philanthropy for decades, giving millions of dollars to a host of worthy causes in and around Jacksonville. She has been a champion for disadvantaged children, an advocate for the rights of women and girls, a leader in public education reform and a compassionate friend to those in need. In partnership with the Jacksonville media, she created StraightTalk, a bold program providing factual information about pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted infections to teens. She created the Senior to Senior Fund, providing dedicated resources for seniors facing short-term crises involving health, housing, clothing and transportation. She created and nurtured the Jaguars Foundation an accomplishment she considers among her best. Under her leadership, the foundation gave more than $15 million to the community and today stands as a permanent philanthropic resource for the region. She invested in the area s nonprofit sector, making a large personal gift to establish endowments for 22 area nonprofits in order to ensure sustainability of quality services. Delores has always been the philanthropist in the family, says her husband, Wayne. Through her personal and professional philanthropy, Delores Barr Weaver has transformed lives, transformed organizations and transformed Jacksonville. 4 A T R A D I T I O N O F P H I L A N T H R O P Y In the last 100 years, women have been the brightest stars in Jacksonville s philanthropic galaxy. The community s two largest charitable foundations were founded by women: Jessie Ball dupont, one of Jacksonville s first great philanthropists, created the fund that bears her name upon her death in 1970 with a $75 million investment. Today, the Fund holds $265 million in assets and has invested more than $88 million in Jacksonville. Lucy Bell Gooding established the Lucy Gooding Charitable Foundation Trust in 1988 after decades of personal philanthropy in Jacksonville. Today the Trust is worth $86 million and has invested more than $91 million in Northeast Florida. Both foundations have been key investors in The Community Foundation through the years, helping the Foundation grow, seeding key community initiatives such as the creation of LISC Jacksonville, building philanthropic infrastructure such as the Donors Forum of Northeast Florida, and being lead partners in efforts to address community needs such as the Community Safety Net Fund. Along with many other philanthropies established by or honoring great Jacksonville women, these institutions shape the character and personality of our community in a myriad of ways. With the creation of the Delores Barr Weaver Fund, Mrs. Weaver follows in the footsteps of these great women women who understood the importance of investing in our communities and who have done so with enormous generosity, wisdom and commitment. Jessie Ball dupont Lucy Bell Gooding
5 A N I N V E S T M E N T I N T H E C O M M U N I T Y S F O U N D A T I O N Rather than establish a private foundation, Delores Barr Weaver has chosen to create her philanthropic legacy through a fund at The Community Foundation. Since 2002, she and her husband, Wayne, have held advised funds at the Foundation. In the summer of 2012, they converted the Weaver Family Foundation s assets, valued at $23.7 million, into an advised fund. Through her long association with the Foundation she served as a trustee from Mrs. Weaver has come to appreciate the value that the Foundation brings to philanthropy and to the community. The Community Foundation has deep local roots, ensuring that philanthropy over time will remain focused on the needs and concerns of this community, even as those needs and concerns change or evolve. The Community Foundation fosters collaboration, creates partnerships and develops and maintains networks, enhancing the return on investment and long-term impact on the community. The Community Foundation nurtures philanthropy, bringing new resources to the table and growing the pool of donors who are invested in and committed to an improved quality of life in Jacksonville. The Community Foundation is the community s foundation. Delores Barr Weaver understands that and recognizes The Community Foundation as the ideal means through which to invest in Jacksonville today and for years to come. The Weavers with Community Foundation President Nina Waters, Executive Vice President Grace Sacerdote and then-chairman Harvey Schlesinger (l-r)

O U R V A L U E S Our philanthropy is based on values that guide us in putting assets to work for good, forever. In support of our mission, The Community Foundation is committed to:» Grantmaking that is fair and thoughtful;» Management that trusts and respects the intent of donors;» Service to community that is innovative and creative;» Governance with integrity that puts community above self. H O W W E W O R K The Community Foundation works for Northeast Florida in multiple ways, playing multiple roles. For donors, the Foundation offers an efficient and effective way to manage giving. The Foundation provides expert philanthropic advice rooted in a deep knowledge of the community. It provides an array of philanthropic vehicles and services. It can accommodate simple gifts of cash or complex gifts of varied assets, all while providing the maximum allowable tax benefit. For the community, the Foundation serves as a grantmaker and a civic leader. The Foundation awards grants to the region's nonprofits to help meet community needs, fulfill the donor's philanthropic wishes and strengthen the nonprofit sector. The Foundation also uses its local knowledge, its networks, its influence and its creativity to bring people together in ways that will improve the community's quality of life today and in the future. 245 Riverside Avenue Suite 310 Jacksonville, Florida T F
