4 A HERITAGE BRAND NAME A name that is instrumental in the physical and economic transformation of Singapore, Greatearth has built condominiums for families, hotels and office complexes for businesses, schools and universities for education, healthcare and transport infrastructure for enhancing the standard of living, as well as country clubs and shopping malls for tourism and recreation. Greatearth started as a builder specialising in civil engineering and general building work. In 1990, it was acquired by and integrated into the engineering and construction arm of the diversified United Engineers Limited ( UEL ), which was well known for being an engineering contractor to many East Asian governments and municipalities as early as in the 1930s. Greatearth leveraged on the strengths and legacy of UEL to continue shaping the Singapore cityscape across decades. By the turn of the new century, Greatearth had developed and built a record number of condominiums as well as constructed high-profile, mega projects. They include the mixed-use development at one-north comprising Rochester Mall, The Rochester (condominium) and Park Avenue Rochester (hotel and serviced suites), as well as the mixed-use development UE BizHub EAST at Changi Business Park comprising Park Avenue Changi (hotel and serviced suites), Changi Link (mall) and office space. It also contributed to other iconic landmarks such as orchardgateway, Marina Bay Sands (hotel), Nanyang Technological University Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, as well as Singapore University of Technology and Design. In 2011, Greatearth (then known as UE E&C Ltd.) was listed on the Mainboard of the SGX-ST with $65 million net profit on the back of $371 million in revenue. It was eventually separated from UEL, privatised and renamed Greatearth Pte Ltd in This marks a new era of growth and transformation for Greatearth which becomes an independent company with accumulated capabilities and a world of new avenues.
