4 SPECIAL FEATURES Welcome Back Watch D.O.G.S!! WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. There are two primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program. 1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. 2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying. WATCH D.O.G.S. began in 1998 in a single school in Springdale, Arkansas and has since grown into a national recognized program that has brought hundreds of thousands of fathers and father figures into the school classrooms and hallways across the country, creating millions of hours of in school volunteer time and having a tremendously positive impact on the educational process. Today more than 5,348 schools in 47 states plus DC participate in WATCH D.O.G.S. Currently, there are WATCH D.O.G.S. programs in China, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Thank you to everyone who attended pizza night and to those who helped with clean up. We appreciate you. Some Watch D.O.G.S. Reminders: * For safety concerns, No cell phone use while volunteering * Clear volunteer times and days with your students' teachers, if you are not on the volunteer calendar for that day, you may not be able to volunteer * Give enough notice to your students' teacher(s) when volunteering. This will enable them to prepare things for you to do while volunteering (working with students, class needs, copies, etc.) * No loitering, unless directed by Mrs. Jones to Watch DOG patrol, throughout the school once you are done volunteering ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING? If so, the Puyallup School District now has an easy and secure online application system that eliminates the need for paper applications! To submit your volunteer application 1. Go to the Puyallup School District website at 2. Under the gold Community tab, click on Volunteer Services. 3. Click on the Online Volunteer Application link to complete and submit your application. You will be notified of your volunteer approval via , so be sure to include an accurate address! 4. Once approved, please read through the Volunteer Handbook, which can be found on the Volunteer Services page on the district website, then contact your school office for information on volunteering procedures and opportunities. This new system is not compatible with mobile device, so you will need to use a computer or device that allows multiple windows to be opened at the same time. If you do not have access to a computer, there are computer kiosks available at each school and at the district office. Please remember that with this new system, approvals are good for 2 years from the date of notification, unless otherwise indicated, so if you were approved to volunteer last year, you do not need to submit a new application until next year. To confirm your approval expiration date, you may contact your school office or volunteer@puyallup.w12.wa.us.

6 A LOOK AHEAD UPCOMING DATES SKATE NIGHT AT TIFFANY s FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7 TH 5:00-7:00 PM Calling All Scientists It is NEVER too early to start thinking about a science project for the Science Fair! ~Heidi Spence October 13 th & 14 th ~ No School October ~ Early Release (Teacher Conferences) October 31 November 4 ~ Bookaneer Book Fair November 11 th ~ No School (Veteran s Day) December 3 rd ~ Holiday Bazaar (For more information, please contact Megan Matteson at goldngang@hotmail.com or Kiersten Vining at kierstenvining@gmail.com)
7 Welcome Back! My name is Kiersten Vining and this is my first year of being the Box Tops coordinator for Fruitland. I appreciate all those families who have supported this program and I know families will continue to support Fruitland by collecting and turning in their current box tops this year as well. Your support allowed Fruitland to raise about $1500 last school year! There are a couple of things I would like to share that help make my job of sorting, counting and submitting (approximately 3,000 or more box tops every couple of months) easier. IMPORTANT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 1. First, please make sure your box tops have NOT EXPIRED. It might be helpful to submit your box tops more often to avoid submitting expired ones. 2. Second, box tops are submitted in groups of 50. It will make my job easier if you can either make copies of the RAMPages collection sheet (adhere only 10 box tops per sheet, please), or if you choose not to use the sheet, simply place a group of 50 in a plastic bag and label it 50. Please staple any Bonus box tops to the collection sheet, Do NOT include those in a set of 10 (bonus box tops are submitted separately). 3. Third, please DO NOT attach Campbell Soup labels to the Box Tops collection sheet. I do not collect Campbell Soup labels. I want to thank you in advance for taking the extra time to review these guidelines before submitting your box tops. It will definitely make my job easier. ~ Kiersten Vining Box Top Coordinator
