The subcommittee continues to focus its efforts on researching fountain ideas. Mural Proiect: New opportunities and participants for the prospective mural project were introduced at the September. Local artist Dan Hatala has indicated an interest in participating in the project. Art in the Park: Sub-committee will continue researching additional projects that could be incorporated throughout the community. This prospective project would include opportunities for sponsorships. American Graffiti Statue Base: The sub-committee for the first Art in the Park sculpture will finalize the statue base this summer. Façade Grant: The committee approved a $500 grant to BO Studio.121. Two additional grants are also available (maximum $500 per grant with a 100% match). Kohlmann Park Hanging Pots: Thanks to Gene Rathje for the continued maintenance on the flowerpots in downtown Waverly and on the Waverly Rail Trail! The committee and the Parks and Recreation Committee received many compliments throughout the summer. 3 COMMENTARY/UPDATE Downtown Marketing/Recruitment: The committee continues to research potential downtown businesses. The committee has discussed recruiting additional volunteers to focus on this important, yet challenging issue. Paula Stevenson attended a Main Street Iowa training in October The sub-committee will focus on niches in downtown Waverly during the upcoming year. Niches will be determined and used as a marketing tool in recruitment efforts. Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA): The National Trust for Historic Preservation will not accept nominations this year. East Bremer Avenue Sidewalk Survey: Committee members will finalize the survey and make contacts with East Bremer Avenue property owners and tenants in August and. Information will be presented to the Waverly City Council. Seminar: The committee is coordinating a series of seminars that will be offered the first quarter of Details will be finalized in the next few months. Available Downtown Properties: The committee continues to monitor downtown properties. Last year the committee tried a later date and decided that the original weekend was more successful. A Holiday Recipe Tour will be added to this year's Holiday Open House. Those interested will provide a recipe that can be included in this year's recipe collection. Each business will serve their recipe during the open house. Customers will be able to collect stamps from each business that they purchase something from during the open house. Once their card is full of stamps they will be able to redeem their card for a holiday recipe collection at the Waverly Area Development Group Office. Holly Jolly Jubilee: Two successful events are being combined this year to form the Holly Jolly Jubilee. Lunch with Santa and Christmas at Kohlmann were both great events by themselves, but they will make an even better event when combined together. Santa will arrive this year on Saturday, December 2. Several fun activities for kids are being planned for that afternoon as well. Lunch with Santa will be held from 11 am to 1pm. The committee is looking at ways to build on this activity. Additional ideas are being looked at to make the event more organized. After lunch, Children will be able to collect goodies throughout Kohlmann Park in their stockings from 1:30 to 4pm and visit Santa at his house. Winter games, an ice sculptor and various other activities will also be held in the park. Christmas Greetings on Main: Work has begun for the 2006 event. Several new ideas are being looked at to add to the success of the past years. Christmas Greetings on Main 2006 will be held on Thursday, December 14. Bremer County Tourism: Meetings continue to be held at the Waverly Area Development Group Office. Staff continues to encourage new ideas. Barn Quilts: Letters were sent to over 500 Bremer County barn owners (original list came from a county database). The office has received numerous calls of interest since sending the letter. 3 1:03 PM 11/07/06

4 Several sub-committees have also been formed. The committee hopes to finish three barns quilts this year. Bus Tours: Research is being done to plan a potential itinerary that tour leaders could use when visiting the area. The committee plans to prepare a brochure that will be used to promote the area to bus tour groups. Plans are being made to attend at least one travel industry trade show. Past investors continue to renew investments. Waverly Light and Power announced an increased investment of $12,000 for 2006 (total of $43,000 committed from Waverly Light and Power for 2006). The 2007 Investment Campaign will begin at the end of September. Project: LEAD: Seventeen participants attended the first session September 14. Project: LEAD will meet one Thursday evening each month thru May. Business Investor Directory: The publication was distributed through the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier September 6. Training Opportunities: Customer Service training is being scheduled for the last quarter of the year. Monthly Newsletter: The monthly newsletter continues to be ed from the WADG Office.
