2 10-06 Family Law Case Management Effective Appellate Practice Changes in Tax Law CLE FOR BENCH-BAR CONFERENCE The 2007 LCBA Bench Bar Conference held January 3, 2007 has been approved for 1.0 hour of CLE. The activity number is AWARDS CEREMONY Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Marsha K. Ternus will be attending the Sixth Judicial District Fourth Annual Awards Ceremony, honoring the recipients of various awards for excellence and dedicated service. The ceremony will take place on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 4-B at the Linn County Courthouse. The awards include Distinguished Service, Employee of the Year, Public Service, Teamwork, Friend of the Court and Dedicated Service. Please plan to attend the ceremony to honor the recipients of the awards. UPCOMING CLE The Kirkwood Foundation is pleased to host a half-day continuing education seminar featuring Vaughn Henry of Henry & Associates. This seminar, entitled Business Succession Planning: Strategies and Charitable Giving Opportunities That Work, will include comprehensive discussions on developing conversations with business owners, understanding control and exit issues, discussing the exit planning process, integrating charity into the succession estate plan and acquiring and selling a donated business entity. Registration deadline is February 14, Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the presentation begins at 8:00 a.m. Continental breakfast will be served. Cost is $60 per person. DONOR ADVISED ENDOWMENT FUNDING REQUEST DEADLINE Do you know a non-profit organization that could benefit? Annually, the Linn County Bar Association Donor Advised Fund distributes grants to nonprofit organizations. The committee that reviews requests for these funds uses the following guideline to determine which organizations will receive funding: The funds will be used to advance the efforts of the legal profession, assist those in need of legal services, or provide intervention or educational services to assist those who might be at risk to become involved adversely in the legal system. The purpose of the program is to recognize exemplary public service by court personnel and to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the administration of justice by persons who are not members of the court system. There are six award categories: (1) Distinguished Service Award, (2) Meritorious Service Award, (3) Court Innovation Award, (4) Amicus Curiae Award, (5) Teamwork Award, and (6) Customer Service Award. Anyone may nomination a candidate for a particular award.
