1 SABBATICAL APPLICATION FORM Deadline: Recommendations with supporting documentation must be submitted to the Faculty Development Committee by December 1 in the year prior to the academic year in which the faculty member is seeking the sabbatical. Sabbatical leaves support, through time and financial support, professional growth, including time and opportunity to travel to pursue creative work and/or research, as well as opportunities for new scholarship, creative projects, exhibitions, and education or training in new areas of knowledge and/or technology. Sabbaticals will be granted for one semester at fullsalary or a full year at one-half (50%) salary. It is expected that a sabbatical provides significant enrichment to a faculty member that will be shared with students and faculty colleagues. Please read MFT Faculty Contract: Article VII/Leaves and Grants for complete information on eligibility and process. Sabbatical leaves may be grant to full-time tenured, part-time tenured or term-contract faculty members for a period of time of one (1) semester or one (1) academic year to perform a specific project submitted for approval to the Faculty development Committee. 2 SABBATICAL PROPOSAL GUIDELINES (Note: The complete proposal should not exceed five pages including SABBATICAL APPLICATION FORM. C.V. is in addition to the application.) 1. Sabbatical Proposal Description: o The project proposal description should indicate the project to be pursued o The proposal should have specificity and focus o It should include expected outcomes of the sabbatical leave activity o It should include process and methods for pursuing proposed project o Clarity and the ability to defend your project are integral 2. Justification o Significance and timeliness of the proposed project o Relationship to professional and creative growth and development o Relationship and benefit of the proposed project to curriculum, department, and college 3. Qualifications o Provide sufficient background information to assist the Faculty Development Committee, Academic Dean, and President in judging the applicant s capacity to successfully complete projects goals. 4. Relevant Supporting Materials o Include any contracts, letters of acceptance for residencies, exhibitions, or invitations to do research, as well as evidence of work completed thus far on or related to the proposed sabbatical project. Applicants may include crowdfunding or business plan if relevant. 5. Current Curriculum Vitae

3 CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING SABBATICAL PROPOSALS 1. Quality, importance, value, and relevance of proposed sabbatical o Size and scope: Is the proposed project ambitious yet achievable in the timeframe? 2. Qualifications of faculty member to successfully complete proposed plans o The applicant has demonstrated adequate preparation and ability to successfully complete the project. 3. Outcomes and Contribution o Will the proposed project support the faculty member s professional development and growth? o Will the proposed project make a significant contribution to the field or discipline and/or college and academic excellence? If the project is an entrepreneurial activity, will it benefit student learning or career development?

4 SABBATICAL LEAVE REPORT AND PRESENTATION 1. REPORT A report of sabbatical leave activities is to be submitted within two months of the conclusion of the sabbatical leave. The report should include: o Brief abstract of project, work, or research proposed o Work accomplished or completed o Opportunities or confirmations to exhibit, publish, and/or apply this work to teaching and pedagogy o Professional development: growth, new opportunities, plans to continue the work o Benefits of the sabbatical leave to the college and academic excellence 2. PRESENTATION o A presentation of sabbatical leave activities and accomplishments will be scheduled in the semester following the sabbatical leave. o Sabbatical presentations are publicized and open to all faculty, professional staff, and students.

5 ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS In evaluating sabbatical proposals, the Faculty Development Committee, Academic Dean, President, and Board will consider the following: o Value of proposed project o Length of faculty service without a leave o Ease of departmental arrangements o Financial condition of the College o Benefits to the individual and the College o Individual s fulfillment of obligations from previous sabbaticals ANATOMY OF SUCCESSFUL SABBATICAL PROPOSALS o Clarity of goals and objectives o Evidence of preparation o Project plan and outcomes o Timeline o Benefit to college and academic excellence o Collaborations, hosts, etc. o Additional relevant information DATE DEVELOPED AND REVISED:
