2 NSF effective 2/24/2014 Effective for proposals submitted or due on or after 2/24/2014. Effective for awards made on or after 2/24/ Sections of the Proposal now lists required sections. 3 Project Summary Clarification that if uploading a PDF file due to the use of special characters, you need to include headings for the three section: overview, intellectual merit, broader impact. Project Narrative Results from Prior NSF Support must include the Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts of the previous work with two distinct headings Clarifies that where the PI and Co-PI have received more than one award they need only report on the one award most closely related to the project. Biographical Sketches The inclusion of information beyond the required section may result in the proposal being returned without review. 5 Unfunded Collaborations Substantial collaborations not included in the budget, should be described in the Facilities, Equipment and Other Resources section and documented with a letter of commitment 6 3

4 NIH transitioned to a new Grants.gov Adobe application package (ADOBE-FORMS-C) on 9/25/2013 for most funding mechanisms (NOT-OD ) NOT-OD announces the transition of remaining mechanisms for due dates on or after 1/25/2014. K, T, D and F funding mechanisms (due on/after 1/25/14) Forms-C R&R Budget (for non-modular grants) PD/PI role does not auto-populate You must manually enter PD/PI as the role or the application will generate an error in era Commons. 7 NOT-OD NIH will start requiring era Commons IDs for all graduate and undergraduate students who participate in NIHfunded projects for at least one month or more. era Commons ID will be collected on the progress report (RPPR) Beginning October 18, 2013 a warning will be generated when RPPR has students. Beginning October 2014 an error will be generated and we cannot submit. 8 4

5 NOT-OD Effective 01/12/2014, the NIH salary cap limit, Executive Level II of the Federal Executive Pay Scale has increased by 1% = $181,500 for 12 month appointment = $136,125 for 9 month appointment Still waiting on guidance on implementation. In the past, the new rate became effective with next Notice of Grant Award. 9 NIH Public Access Policy Publications on progress report (RPPR) must be compliant with the NIH Public Access Policy. NIH will delay processing of award if publications arising from it are not in compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy PIs will need to use My NCBI to enter papers onto progress reports. The RPPR publication section (C.1) is pre-populated with the PI s publications from My NCBI. Publications need PMCID to be compliant. Progress Report Additional Materials (PRAM) module used in era Commons to update publications. 10 5

Requirement is in the Funding Opportunity Announcement. Most common activity codes: R25, F, T and K awards. 12 6

7 LSU provides training through Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) See ORED Polices and Compliance website on RCR. Responsibility of the PI to ensure that all covered parties are in compliance with the RCR. The PI: Puts together list of required participants and appropriate modules Notifies participants of requirement and ensures that receive training.
