1 Program Overview: The Graduate Student Association offers this merit-based grant program allowing graduate students the opportunity to compete for monetary support for their research and scholarly projects. It is our goal to provide funding opportunities that encompass a wide range of scholarly activities of graduate students from a breadth of disciplines. The Graduate Student Association has a pool of $25,000 for grant funding, and will award as many grants as possible, up to $2,500 per student. A panel of judges from multiple academic departments will evaluate the grant proposals. Eligibility: Applicants for this award must be registered, full-time graduate students (9 credits or 6 credits with an assistantship) in good academic standing at the time of application. Members of the GSA Executive Council and Awards Committee, and persons involved with the judging process of any GSA awards, are ineligible to apply. Awards will be made for the academic year, and will be available beginning in August Students must be enrolled for Fall Semester 2015 classes at UNR in order to access funds. Funding Priorities: The Graduate Student Association will place priority on proposais that... -are of high quality, viable, and meritorious -have demonstrable, measurable outcomes -are financially feasible -have demonstrated the ability to meet project goals, budget, and timeline Application Instructions: Please submit one copy of your application packet to the GSA Office (JCSU 302, Mail Stop 0057) by 5:00pm on February 26. Your application packet must include the following: -Completed six-page application -Letter of recommendation from advisor addressing the merits of the proposed project -Certificate of Protocol form, for research involving human subjects (NOTE: if your research has not yet been approved by the IRB, you may submit an unofficial copy of your Protocol Application; if you are granted an award, funds will not be released until you provide GSA with a final approved Certificate of Protocol.) Applications must be submitted to the GSA Office in hard copy. s or electronic submissions will not be accepted. Important Information: The GSA Awards Program is a highly competitive process. Applications are judged by UNR faculty members and administrators. The decisions of the judges are final. The maximum grant amount will be $2,500 per student. Requests for more than $2,500 wiii not be considered. Applicants will be notified whether they have won an award by April 6. All applicants are invited to attend the GSA Awards Ceremony. 3 Proposal (Part I) Clearly state the problem to be addressed, the hypothesis to be tested, and the goals of your project. Why is this work important? Describe the project in a disciplinary and, if appropriate, regional context.

4 Proposal (Part II) Concisely state how you plan to address your problem, test your hypothesis, and complete your project.

5 Budget Overview Budget: List, in order of priority, your itemized budget. Research Grants are primarily designed to fund the purchase of equipment or other materials necessary to complete your project. Funding may also be requested for the purpose of publishing your project's results. Funding may not be used towards living expenses of any kind, the payment or supplementation of stipends or assistantships, or the hiring of assistants, however necessary to the project. Funding requests will be granted for travel to another location only if it is required by the project and the applicant can demonstrate this.
