1 Wyoming Safety & Workforce Summit Overview of s for 2018 During the annual Summit, the Department of Workforce Services and industry partners will recognize outstanding contributions of employers and workers across Wyoming. Multiple safety awards will recognize those taking exemplary action to protect and promote the health and safety of our workforce. Wyoming employers and individuals are encouraged to apply for as many awards as they are eligible, and join us at s Ceremony to share and learn from best practice experiences. More information and application forms are available online: wyomingworkforce.org/summit/2018/awards/ (# awards given) Governor s Stop Work Authority 1 team award: employee & supervisor, any size employer Background or Significance Started by the Wyoming Oil & Gas Safety Alliance (WOGISA) and Governor Freudenthal in 2012, and continued under Governor Mead, this is perhaps the most prestigious of all safety awards. It recognizes the specific actions of a supervisor and Eligibility Eligibility for this award is open to WOGISA members, employers and employees. WOGISA is also expanding eligibility for this award to include members, employers and employees of the other industry safety organizations in Wyoming. All industries are eligible SAFETY AWARDS Selection Criteria Applications/nominat ions are reviewed and chosen by the WOGISA board of directors. The WOGISA Board may consult with DWS OSHA for further vetting if there is any question about the safety record of the selected company. How/When to Apply or Nominate Applications/nominat ions are solicited in notified by the WOGISA Board by early May. Past awards have gone to workers involved with upmid-, and downstream oil & gas operations.

3 OSHA EVTP 2 awards: The Employer Voluntary Technical Assistance (EVTAP) is a Wyoming-specific program designed to provide a more healthful and safe work environment for employees through the cooperation of employers, employees, and Department of Workforce Services OSHA. The ultimate purpose of the program is to ensure Open to employers actively enrolled in the Employer Voluntary Technical Assistance (EVTAP) through WY OSHA Consultation. Only Wyoming employers or in-state locations of companies are reviewed and the winner chosen by a committee of OSHA Consultation staff and the Compliance Assistance Specialist. Criteria considered notified by the OSHA Consultation manager by early May.

4 OSHA SHARP 2 awards: that each establishment in the program reaches a level of selfsufficiency in the area of health and safety so as to be selfpolicing with little or no guidance from OSHA. Once this level is achieved, entry into one of our Federal OSHA recognition programs (SHARP or VPP) can be achieved. About 20 employers are currently enrolled in EVTAP. The SHARP is a Federal OSHA Recognition that recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA's On-site Consultation services and operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. Acceptance of a worksite into SHARP from OSHA is an Open to employers actively enrolled in the Achievement Recognition (SHARP) through OSHA Consultation. Only Wyoming employers or in-state locations of companies are reviewed and the winner chosen by a committee of OSHA Consultation staff and the Compliance Assistance Specialist. Criteria considered notified by the OSHA Consultation manager by early May.

State Mine Inspector, Mine Operator 2 awards: This award recognizes excellence among Wyoming s mine operators. There are currently about 350 active operators in the state. Open to any mine operator, coal or noncoal. Only Wyoming employers or in-state locations of companies are reviewed and the winner chosen by the State and Deputy Mine Inspectors. Criteria considered notified by the State Mine Inspector by early May. State Mine Inspector, Mine Contractor This award recognizes excellence among Wyoming s Open to any mine site contractor, coal or non-coal. Only reviewed and chosen by the State and

6 2 awards: mining contractors. There are currently about 350 active mine contractors in the state. Wyoming employers or in-state locations of companies are Deputy Mine Inspectors. Criteria considered notified by the State Mine Inspector by early May. Workers Compensation Path to Safety Excellence 2 s: This award recognizes safety excellence among Wyoming Workers Compensation employers. The award will showcase an employer s ability to create awareness and embrace safety in the workplace. This award is open to any employer who has an active Wyoming Workers Compensation policy that is in good standing. Nominees are reviewed and selected by the Administrator of Workers Compensation, Deputy Administrator of Employer Services, and the Manager for WCSR.
