1 SOROPTIMISTS CELEBRATING SUCCESS (SCS) AWARDS NORTHWESTERN REGION APRIL 2016 Slide 1 In the spirit of inspiring dreams and celebrating success we re here to inspire your club s dreams by celebrating some of the excellent projects and processes revealed through this year s Soroptimist Celebrating Success program. Slide 2 This is the second year for the Northwestern Region SCS Award Process. These awards recognize outstanding club projects that support our mission and demonstrate some of the best practices in each of our four Pillars of Success: Fundraising, Membership, Program, and Public Awareness. This award process covers the program year July 1, 2014 June 30, Our selectees for this year s process have already been forwarded to SIA for further recognition. The Federation SCS award winners will be announced at the Biennial Conference in Orlando, July Slide 3 Review of Judging Process: Each District SCS Representative evaluated and scored the entries from the other three Districts. This ensured the respective representative did not evaluate entries from their own District. These three scores were totaled and this number used for the final score. The two highest scored entries for each Pillar are being recognized here today. The Chair of the SCS Committee, by design, does not serve as a judge. A summary of the finalists were submitted to the Northwestern Governor Carol and Governor Elect Stephanie prior to submission to SIA.

2 Slide 4 Summary of July 1, 2015 Northwestern Region Entries: Entries were received from all Districts. A total of 25 clubs were represented in the entries compared to 20 in the previous year. A total of 40 individual entries were evaluated in this year's process. There were 24 entries submitted last program year, resulting in an overall increase of 67%. We ll be looking for an even higher number of entries for the program year If you didn t win this year, what are you going to do? Yes, reapply in If you won this year, please apply in a different category. Slide 5 Are you ready to hear about our winners? Our Region's leaders approved the recognition of the Highest Scored Projects AND we will also be honoring the second-place scoring projects in an Honorable Mention category. All the clubs honored today will receive special seating at our. We ask that club members quickly (running or moving as fast as you can) come forward to accept your awards from our VIP's. Slide 6 Let s start with the Fundraising Pillar: This was a highly competitive category with creative and successful projects. If you didn t get selected this year, consider resubmitting your project for the program year ending June 30, Several of our winning projects were second-year entries. Let's start with Honorable Mention with the second-highest score in Fundraising. Slide 7 Whidbey Island of Treasures SI of Oak Harbor

3 Slide 8 Now, for first place in the Fundraising Pillar. This club followed the advice from SIA regarding Fundraising and started working smarter, not harder and with their fundraising activities. This change in philosophy resulted in great results and time savings. I've heard of this club before... Sliide 9 Teddy Bear Parade Sponsorship SI of Gresham Slide 10 Let s move on to Membership and start with Honorable Mention. We will be looking for more entries in this category in the future because we know there are some clubs out there doing some really great work both retention and recruitment, especially with the All Aboard the Member SHIP program in full swing in many clubs. Our second-highest scoring entry is... Slide 11 A Recipe for Retention SI of Oak Harbor Slide 12 Now, for our highest scoring project in Membership for this year: This club developed a detailed plan for membership recruitment and retention. Other clubs might want to take a look at their plan and results. As many of you might agree, there's nothing like a well-written action plan! Slide 13 Membership on the Rise SI of Greater Bremerton Area Slide 14 Did you notice that Oak Harbor has already been recognized twice? This is being shared as a teachable moment. All clubs are welcome to submit one entry in each Pillar. So, how many can a club submit in one year? Yes, up to 4. Congratulations to Oak Harbor for your success and taking the time to document the great work being accomplished in your club.

4 Slide 15 Now on to our third Pillar: Program, starting with our Honorable Mention recognition. Slide 16 Dream It, Be It: Community Assessment SI of Three Rivers and Pasco-Kennewick Slide 17 Three Rivers and Pasco-Kennewick clubs also partnered up last year in winning the Public Awareness Category. So, remember to consider including other clubs in your area projects. It's also a great way to get smaller clubs more involved in more extensive projects. Slide 18 Our top point earner in the Program Pillar implemented a program for girls in their community long before Dream It, Be It. In fact, many of the activities in their program could easily be incorporated into a customized Dream It, Be It Program. Slide 19 Girl Power SI of Burlington Slide 20 Public Awareness is our final category and one that is so important in telling our story. Our runner-up and Honorable Mention project is: Slide 21 SIOC Backpack Project SI of Coupeville

5 Slide 22 The highest earning club found a need in their community, developed a long term project, and established themselves as a leader and a group who could get things done. Slide 23 Soroptimist Village SI of Great Falls Slide 24 If your club received one of these awards today, either as Honorable Mention or the Region winning entry, will you please stand for a round of applause? Thank you for your excellence in all your submitted projects. A summary of the entries will be published in an upcoming issue of the Region s newsletter. If your club is interested in receiving more details about the projects, we recommend that you directly contact the individual clubs. Also, we will be leading a workshop on the SCS Program, Saturday afternoon. If you want to learn more about this program, and pick up some great tips for selecting and submitting projects, our committee will see you there. Details about the next year s process have already been placed on the Soroptimist NWR website. Again this year, entries will only be evaluated that are received electronically. By the way, we had 100% response to using the electronic process last year. Our Committee would like to thank you for saving us much valuable time. Also, you will want to carefully review the instructions for this year s process. If we could give you one tip that would help in detailing your projects, it would be to specifically respond to the specific criteria for each Pillar.
