2 About Us An Indonesian grant making institution, initiated by private sectors Support restoration, protection, conservation of endangered species, Institutional development, and community development and empowerment initiatives. Support initiatives in Conservation Area, Production Forest, Protection Forest, and Social Forestry on the ten specified grant distribution areas across five provinces on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). 18 How to contribute?

19 Funding Sources and Allotments Belantara aims to have several sources of funders/donors to support the institution initiatives, such as : General Public, High Net Worth Individuals, Private Funding, and Public Funding. Belantara will provide various docks for the funding, such as: Crowdsource funding, Philanthropic Funding, and Project / Institutional Funding. The funding will be classified into two types: the sinking fund (100% of the funding will be utilised for projects/initiatives, while endowment fund will invest the funding and utilised its certain portion of profit to the project/initiatives (while keeping the funding to be revolved).

20 Comparison of Endowment Fund and Sinking Fund Funding Cycles in Belantara Endowment Fund Market based Investments Impact Investments Business Units Revolving of Funds Programmatic Window Strategic Window Partnership Window Funds flowing into Belantara may have two main typologies of use: Sinking Fund & Endowment Fund The endowment arm is to allow Belantara through a portfolio of income generating outlets grow available funds to further support its projects and operations. 3 major modalities to manage endowment, through: 1) Market based investments (equities, securities, bonds, futures, etc.); 2) Impact Investments (smallholder financing, carbon sequestration, etc.); 3) Business Units (seed nurseries, consultancy/advisory companies, etc.) The sinking arm is Belantara s main typology of fund disbursements through grant making efforts to finance self initiatives and submitted initiatives from implementing partners.

21 Opportunity for Funder: To contribute as Project Level Financier Belantara Foundation Opportunity for Funder to be project level financier allows for self initiated project ideas originating from the foundation s internal components (board/management/staff) as well as project ideas originating from funders/donors/partners. Financing Modality for Existing Portfolio Method 1, funders/donors will gain the benefit of being able to roll out funds and support immediately High deployment phase yet low visibility Minimum risk as there are a portion of financing from the foundation Performance and impact gained are shared between funders/donors and the foundation. Method 2, funders/donors will gain the benefit of being able to fully engage from initial phase Full share of performance and impact gained Method 2. 23 MRV Process & Impact Report Credible sustainability impact report is crucial as part of the evaluation process. Robust key performance indicators (KPI) that are customised per initiatives to analyse the success rate in project level as well as in the greater scale level. Invite a credible independentevaluator to assess the full cycle process.

25 Further Update: Thank You Work on the Foundation s Communication Protocols According to the direction from the Minister of Environment and Forestry GoI and Directorate General of Natural Resources Conservation and Ecosystem; there is a need to revise the usage of specific terminologies in Belantara s external communications material. Positioning of the foundation: Grant making institution that facilitate the funding for initiatives of conservation, restoration, protection, and community development initiatives within the targeted grant distribution areas. Avoid the usage of term Belantara s landscape as it could mislead the public perception, it could be interpreted as Belantara owning or has the authority to manage the landscape (in which it is the authority of the government). Avoid the usage of term 10 critical landscapes as directed by the Minister of Environment and Forestry. Avoid the usage of term that could be interpreted as Belantara is the implementer of a project, since in fact Belantara is the funder / facilitator for the projects/ initiative. Terminology revision: Landscape/ Bentang Alam = Ekosistem / Area Hibah) to be discussed Comms of Belantara will Prepare specific message for target audiences according to the protocol and revise the communication material (prints/online/etc).
