7 The Human Journey Projects that explore and document the human experience through time in order to preserve and celebrate our shared heritage. Fields of anthropology, archaeology, paleoanthropology, psychology, human health, and human geography.

8 Wildlife and Wild Places Projects that explore and document the Earth s biodiversity in order to better understand and conserve species, habitats, processes, and ecosystems. Fields of biology, ecology, and conservation.

9 Our Changing Planet Projects that explore and document earth and ocean systems in the present, past, and future in order to better understand and protect the evolving environment. Fields of geology, geochemistry, physical geography, oceanography, paleontology, and observational astronomy.

10 Grant types Research Conservation Education Storytelling Technology Early Career Standard Expedited

11 Grant focus Research: Pursuit of knowledge by answering specific research questions Conservation: Achievement of quantifiable conservation outcomes as a result of scientifically-informed actions Storytelling: Documentation through photography, journalism, mapping, and/or filmmaking Education: Innovative/effective teaching practices and community education Technology: Development of innovative tools and methods which positively impact our ability to explore, protect, and tell the story of our world and its inhabitants.

12 Grant types Early Career Grants: Applicant s first opportunity to lead a project (up to US$5,000) Standard Grants: Applicant and team have proven record of success on this project or similar projects (up to US$30,000) Expedited Grants: Applicant with projects that need funds within the next 30 days-for extenuating circumstances only (e.g. immediate need to report on, photograph, or research a natural disaster such a flooding event or volcano, imminent destruction of an area by bulldozers). The urgency must be justified (up to US$15,000.)
