1 BPP Escamequita a Barrio Planta Project Initiative Our Vision We envision a world where local communities are able to leverage the growth of the tourism industry into economic and educational opportunities for their children, youth, and families. Our Mission Barrio Planta Project (BPP) empowers the children and youth of San Juan del Sur and surrounding areas through free supplementary schooling that instills creativity, enhances confidence, and facilitates international communication. BPP Escamequita Programming BPP is supplementary to the schooling students receive in their public elementary or high school, which is only half a day for some, and for others only one day/week. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, BPP offers children relevant programming the local school district does not have the resources to provide, in order to enrich the students lives with full days of educational activities and enhance the educational opportunities in the region. BPP Escamequita is comprised of primarily of two educational programs, English as a Second
2 Language (ESL) and Agriculture Education (Ag Ed) and lunches are provided every day for afternoon students, many who commute far and come directly from school. BPP ESL Programming utilizes the same curricular model that BPP has developed in San Juan del Sur, a five-year course that makes learning fun, interactive and effective. Students advance through five levels of English - from Beginner to Advanced - with a focus on speaking, conversation and comprehension with the grammar base necessary to form strong reading and writing skills as well. Material taught in grammar classes is practiced and reinforced through English Games and Conversation Classes, where students learn through play. BPP Ag Ed Programming adopts the structure of the American based youth agriculture program, Future Farmers of America. This century old model has continuously been proven effective when incorporating three components: Classroom Instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experience, and Leadership. This model provides a diversity of experiences and knowledge that will positively contribute to rural opportunities and livelihoods. The curriculum has been adapted and customized for the children of the Escamequita region. BPP Escamequita Student Body BPP Escamequita has a total of 72 students, ages 8-17, divided into four groups who each attend 6 8 hours of classes per week. Group One o Monday Thursday from 8:00am-9: 30am o 20 students, ages 8-12, 10 male, 10 female o Communities: Las Parcelas, Escamequita, Ojo de Agua Group Two o Monday Thursday from 9:30am 11:00am o 13 students, ages 10-15, 6 female, 7 male o Communities: Las Parcelas, Escamequita, Ojo de Agua Group Three o Monday Thursday from 2:00pm 4:00 pm o 24 students, ages 7-14, 17 female, 7 male o Communities: Las Parcelas, Escamequita, Ojo de Agua, Las Brisas Group Four o Every Friday, 8am 4pm o 15 students, ages 13-17, 10 female, 5 male o Communities: Las Parcelas, Escamequita, Ojo de Agua, Las Brisas

Fundación Proyecto Barrio La Planta, established in 2011 as BPP's national legal representative is recognized as a Nicaraguan NGO, published in La Gaceta #58. Donations from Nicaraguan Companies are 100% tax deductible, if the company is not in the red and the donation amount does not exceed 15% of company s revenue. Fundraising Summary
4 BPP recognizes the following as the keys to long-term sustainability and emphasizes their development both on long-term and short-term basis: Monthly Donors Corporate Sponsors (write-offs for both US and Nicaraguan companies) Grant-writing Team Donor Communication & Accountability (photos, newsletters, website, targeted mailings) Social Enterprise Perspective (generating revenue) Effective PR, Marketing & Advertising Committed Stakeholders Commitment to Excellence In regards to the development of BPP Escamequita, BPP provides support with our existing infrastructure, including our Department of Development/Fundraising. Each role of our first year staff includes a development component in their job description and expectations. Additionally, our Director of Development will be dedicated to grant writing for the rural initiative. Our main short-term goal will be acquiring monthly and annual donors to cover our operating budget from homeowners and local businesses, and our long-term goal will be through grant writing, corporate sponsorship and donor cultivation. Once the program proves to be successful and recognized in the community and internationally, we will continue to generate more support and sustainability. Budget As a result of efforts of Marc Schultz, Costa Dulce, Big Sky Ranch and other partners, BPP Escamequita has raised $16,275, 48% of our first year implementation goal with $17,725 to raise by May 31 st, 2017 in order to commit to the same programming model for the second half of the year. These funds have been invested into essential operating expenses as well as long-term development goals. For an updated status of fundraising efforts, please visit the campaign page,
