Expanded our College in the High School Courses this Year Thanks to Grant Funding from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction - 65 college credits available Recipient of JWG Grant (Jobs for Washington Graduates) $10,000 to assist with helping at-risk students learn job seeking skills Hagan Foundation Grant Providing $90,000 for Project Lead the Way Curriculum, Training, & Equipment in all of our schools (3 year grant) GearUp Federal Grant - Provides $92,000 yearly next 6 years aimed at increasing number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education

30 2017 Legislature Session began in January Went into 3 overtime sessions In late June, passed House Bill 2242 the new Education Funding Bill (no public hearing!) In 2019, M & O Levies will be limited to $1.50/$1,000 new name Enrichment Levies Beginning in 2018, a Levy Swap will begin

36 Davenport Bus Fleet 8 full-time route drivers We transport an average of 395 students each day 102,000 miles logged annually to/from school We receive depreciation payments from the state for buses that are 13 years old or less We have been working hard to update our bus fleet to maximize our depreciation payments from the state Avg. cost of a new school bus: Approximately: $123,000

37 Didn t the Supreme Court Just Give the Schools a Ton of Money?

39 Recent Supreme Court Order The court concludes that the State is adequately funding categorical components of the basic education program in accordance with ESHB 2261 & SHB (p. 36) At this point, the court is willing to allow the State s program to operate and let experience be the judge of whether it proves adequate. (p. 37) As things stand today, the salary allocation model enacted in EHB 2242 complies with the State s obligation to fully fund K-12 basic education salaries, but it will not be implemented by September 1, The State thus remains out of compliance with its constitutional duty the court will retain jurisdiction to ensure full compliance by the established deadline, and it will maintain the sanction (p. 43)

48 Key Facts If the two special levies pass on Feb. 13, the money is not collected until beginning in The 2017 Legislature has limited (beginning in 2019) the total levy rate for enrichment levies (use to be called M & O Levies) to $1.50/$1,000. Your taxes will go up in 2018 for one year this is due to the State increasing the state school tax. This will happen regardless of whether or not the two special levies the district is running are passed. Beginning in 2019, your overall taxes for the school levies and the state school tax are predicted to go down to a rate less than what you paid paying in The two special levies, if passed, will expire in The district s regular levy will also expire in 2020.
