2 Objectives Provide a structured research mentorship program for each junior resident (years 1-3) with a senior resident; and prepare senior residents to become mentors for the juniors Persistently address the following critical decisions: Introduction to research requirements CITI training, IACUC, IRB, Grants Research plan for dedicated research time Funding for dedicated research time Fellowship

3 Objectives Research projects Alignment with career goals/interests Spanning clinical, translational, and basic science (if applicable) Barriers to each phase of project addressed Resources identified Discuss active projects 2 manuscript/year requirement Identifying meetings for abstract submissions Projected practice environment (academic, privademic, private)

4 Procedure Each junior resident will be assigned a senior mentor Each mentor and mentee will meet: in person meetings quarterly monthly electronic check-ins A REDCap survey will be used to track progress over time.

5 Milestones PGY 1 Two areas of interest have been identified First two potential publications have been identified (should be on other residents projects) Research training completed (CITI, GCP etc) Prepare presentation for Tuesday morning research meeting PGY 2 Meet with two potential research mentors for dedicated research time Resident contributes to two publications Deciding on plans for research year Seeking funding for research year Prepare presentation for Tuesday morning research meeting

6 Milestones PGY 3 Resident is actively working on at least two research projects Resident contributes to two new publications Decided on plans for research year and approved by lab/pi Should be decided by January of 3rd year Has funded research year or submitted grant proposal Resident has presented at national meeting (poster or presentation) Prepare presentation for Tuesday morning research meeting PGY 4 Resident is actively working on at least two research projects Resident contributes to two new publications Decided on plans for research year and approved by lab/pi Has funded research year or submitted proposal Resident has considered fellowship plans Resident is mentoring a junior resident Schedule and conduct a research meetings monthly
