4 Executive Summary During the academic year, 2,948 students completed degrees and certificates. Of those awards, 59% were associate s degrees and 41% were certificates. Educational Objectives Of the program completers who responded to the follow-up survey, 94% indicated that they had achieved their educational objective. Licensing/Certification Exams Thirty-two percent of respondents indicated that they had taken a state licensing exam or an industry certificate exam since leaving JCCC. Of those who had taken an exam, 98% reported that they had passed the exam. Current Education/Employment Sixty-eight percent of program completers reported they were continuing their education. Of those employed, 51% reported they were working in a related field. The average hourly wage was $ Employer Evaluations Eighty-nine percent of employers indicated that program completer s overall job preparation were good or very good. 1

5 Survey Methods Completer Survey The population for the current survey included 2,796 former students who completed a degree or certificate during the academic year. Of those awards, 58% were associate s degrees and 42% were certificates. Questionnaires were initially ed to members with valid addresses in early November, In mid-november, questionnaires were then mailed to all remaining members of the population and to those who had not responded to the request. Attempts to contact remaining non-respondents by telephone began in December, 2014, and ended in mid-january, When attempts to contact former students ended in mid-january, 2015, 348 completers had been removed from contact lists because of obsolete addresses or telephone numbers. One thousand five hundred forty-six former students had either returned a questionnaire or completed a telephone interview, yielding an adjusted response rate of 63%. Employer Survey Respondents who worked in jobs related to their program identified 615 of their employers. Questionnaires asking employers to evaluate program completers were mailed to those employers in March and April Twelve surveys were returned by the postal service as undeliverable. An additional 14 were returned incomplete with a privacy policy notification and two graduates were no longer working for the employer they indicated on their survey. Two hundred eighteen of the remaining employers returned questionnaires, yielding an adjusted employer survey response rate of 37%. Caution should be exercised when interpreting results at program levels. Small numbers of respondents in most career programs may make results unrepresentative of all completers of individual career programs. Questions and comments should be directed to LaWanda Hughes, Office of Institutional Research, Johnson County Community College. 2
