1 PAID ARTIST RESIDENCY AT THE VESTIBULES INTRODUCTION Artspace Lifespace and City Council s Arts & Events team are offering a residency to an early career artist to develop new work to exhibit at to coincide with the Global Parliament of Mayors Annual Summit in October The Global Parliament of Mayors is a governance body of, by and for mayors from all continents. From October, will host The Global Parliament of Mayors Annual Summit To celebrate this global gathering, City Council Arts Team and Artspace Lifespace have created this resident opportunity and will pay a bursary of 2,800 to create new work which will be exhibited during the Annual Summit at. THE VESTIBULES are the former entrances located at either end of the City Hall building. Artspace Lifespace s and City Council s Arts Development Team have teamed up to provide space for groups to share their projects and ideas through exhibitions, performances, cinemas and pop up art markets. usual opening hours are Monday - Friday 10am - 7pm. We are unable to make permanent alterations to the walls and we must ensure that artwork does not block the fire exits. The successful artist will have use of the two Vestibules between the 15 th October and 23 rd October.

2 THE BRIEF OVERARCHING THEME: EMPOWERING CITIES SUBTHEMES Opportunity cities Focus on social and creative economies and city leadership enhancing entrepreneurship and economic growth for all Migration cities Focus on migration and refugees Media: Artists are welcome to submit works in any medium: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, textile, installation, mixed media, digital, film etc. that addresses the themes. All visual art mediums are welcome and we will also consider performance applications. TIMELINE Deadline for submissions: 12 noon on 6th July. Interviews: 24th July. July/August - Artist selected and matched with mentor. August - Early October- Exhibition development and mentoring October - Vestibules exhibition October - Global Parliament of Mayors Annual Summit. November/December - Final feedback meeting and report. City Hall

3 ORGANISATION SUPPORT This residency offers artists the opportunity to create an experimental public facing exhibition at - plus a bursary of 2,800 to support your time, cost of materials, marketing and promotion and other costs. The 2,800 will be paid in two instalments. 90% will be paid at the beginning of the residency and 10% after a final feedback meeting with ASLS and BCC staff and completion of a final report written by the artist and mentor including a final budget and how the residency and mentoring has helped to develop their practice. As part of our residency: - you will also be partnered with a paid mentor to support you with your exhibition development - please allow time for a monthly catch up meeting with ASLS and BCC staff and a final feedback meeting with ASLS and BCC staff at the end of the project - ASLS and BCC will have rights to use project photographs and images for promotional and publicity purposes. The artist must acknowledge the support of BCC and ASLS (including use of legible logos) in all relevant publicity and promotional material. City Hall

4 ELIGIBILITY The residency is open to early career artists only. We particularly welcome applications from artists who are underrepresented in 'mainstream' arts programming including BAME, LGBTQ+ and artists with disabilities. HOW TO APPLY? Send the following to subject: GPM Vestibules Residency 1. Project proposal responding to the brief, in no more than 500 words or a 3 minute proposal video. Your proposal should include what the audience will experience, a brief draft action plan and logistics of the project. 2. Anticipated budget breakdown (i.e. materials, expenses etc.) 3. Short bio (max 100 words) and up to three examples of any previous work. 4. A short statement about what impact you think the residency will have on your practice 5. Equal opportunity monitoring form. SELECTION Deadline for submissions 6 July noon. We will let you know by 16th July at the latest if you have been shortlisted. Artists who are shortlisted will be invited to individually meet ASLS and BCC staff, show examples of their work and discuss the project. Your meeting will be approx. 45 minutes long. A projector and screen will be available if required. If shortlisted, you must be available to attend an interviews on the 24th July and we will notify the successful artists and partner them with their mentors at the end of July City Hall

5 QUESTIONS If you have any questions that are not answered below please FAQ Can I put forward a submission as part of a collective? We require the artist submitting the application to be the lead for the project, there are no restrictions on a collective putting forward an application but all the applicants within the collective must be early career artists. If working with a team, please name them and outline how each artist will contribute to the project or if you do not have names, explain what other kind of artists or skills you would need to realise your idea. Is this open only to artists age 16-25? We recognise that there may be many artists who have not had the opportunity to pursue an unpaid work opportunity so this opportunity is open to people of all ages. An early career artist is someone in the early stages of their professional career as an artist, usually within the first five years of professional practice or practitioners who want to take the step from hobby artist to career artist. Who are the judges? Representatives from Artspace Lifespace and City Arts team will create the shortlist and interview the artists. Can I select my own mentor? City Arts team will match you with a mentor from within the city. How much time will I have with my mentor? Equivalent to 2 days full time mentorship minimum. City Hall
