2 Trust Arts & Culture Grant Programs Managed by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance Arts Funding to Communities Objectives: Fund individual and group projects within a community Respond to unique local issues Provide funds to artists, or to arts and cultural groups Involve more artists in local arts projects, and arts decision making Raise awareness of artists as belonging to the Basin and being interpreters of Basin Culture Who can apply? Funding is available to individuals, groups, or organizations. Funding eligibility: Any local artistic or cultural project benefiting Basin artists and/or communities. At least one of the outcomes must be a priority listed on the application form. How to apply: Submit applications to your local arts council. Generally, projects receive between $500 and $2,500. Applicants are encouraged to submit a reasonable and realistic budget in order to complete the proposed project. The local arts council adjudicating committee makes recommendations about which projects to support based on the strength and quality of the application. Application forms available at basinculture.com Total program funding: $130,000. Each community arts council usually receives approximately $5,000. Arts councils that receive eight or more Program 1 applications may recommend additional projects for Program 1. Application deadline: Received by your local community arts council by 5:00 pm local time March 2, Minor capital ARTS Objectives: To support in the preservation and protection of arts and cultural venues, and to support the capital needs of arts and cultural organizations. Funding eligibility: For capital funding needs of non-profit arts and cultural organizations or venues. Funding is available for capital projects including (but not limited to): equipment; computers; software; instruments; risers; purchase or creation of presentation cabinets or fixtures; renovating, initiating or building facilities; acoustical improvements. Total program funding: $110,000. Maximum request is $10,000. Application deadline: Received by 5:00 pm PDST, March 16, Touring Objectives: To assist individuals or groups to tour arts or cultural productions, exhibitions or workshops in the Basin. To increase public awareness of Basin arts and cultural productions. Funding eligibility: Any artist/performer, or arts or cultural organization who would like to tour the Basin with their arts or cultural performance, exhibition or workshop. Total program funding: $55,000. Maximum request is $5,000. Arts & CULTURE mentoring / master classes Objectives: Assists community or arts groups to provide artistic or cultural mentoring or master classes to emerging professionals. Project instructors / mentors must be recognized professionals in their field. Funding eligibility: Funding is available to groups or organizations. Total program funding: $40,000. 3 Organizational Development Objectives: To provide organizational development and workshops for arts and cultural organizations to improve their structure and capacity to serve communities. Partnering with like minded organizations is encouraged where appropriate. How to apply: Submit applications to CKCA. It is recommended applicants contact CKCA before completing the application form. Funding is not available for staff wages. Total program funding: $10,000 Major project ARTS Objectives: For individuals and arts and cultural organizations to create artistic works, bodies of work, arts or cultural performances, events or projects on a major scale that furthers the directions of the CKCA and the Trust. It is strongly recommended applicants contact CKCA before starting the application. Projects should exhibit additional sources of revenue in addition to the CKCA funding request. Total program funding: $80,000. Each award is $10,000. Artists in the Classroom & Creative Spark Managed by ArtStarts in Schools ArtStarts in Schools offers Artists in the Classroom (AIC) grants to help schools bring professional artists into their classrooms. AIC grants support projects that demonstrate artistic excellence, strong curricular connections, high levels of student engagement and an active partnership between an educator and a professional artist. For the AIC program is funded by BC Arts Council. How to apply: For AIC application forms and deadline dates visit artstarts.com/aic. ARTS EVOLUTION Objectives: Supports non-profit organizations with a focus on arts and culture to: Present the work of a Basin artist or artists to the community. Supports coordination, programming and promotion of juried or curated exhibitions or performances. Projects may include a touring component, workshops or artists talks. Create a project with a focus on arts and culture which furthers the goals outlined on the application form. Projects may include creation of new works, curatorial projects, collaborative art and cultural projects It is strongly recommended applicants contact the CKCA before starting the application. Total program funding: Total program funding: $70,000. Maximum request is $15,000. ArtStarts CREATIVE SPARK The Creative Spark grant is designed to support artists across all disciplines living and working in the Basin, who have an interest in working with young people in an arts-based capacity, allowing artists to engage young people in schools and communities in arts-based projects. 4 Programs administered directly by Columbia Basin Trust and Heritage BC Built Heritage Grants This program supports the conservation, rehabilitation and/or restoration of major built heritage assets. Built Heritage Grants may provide financial contributions to a broad range of heritage conservation work that directly relates to the preservation of the built heritage asset to protect its heritage values. Next Intake: February 5, 2018 to March 16, 2018 ourtrust.org/builtheritagegrants Heritage, Museum and Archive Grants This program offers support to projects specific to current needs in the heritage, museum and archives sector; including planning, conservation, exhibits, collections, and community engagement. Next Intake: January 29, 2018 to March 9, 2018 ourtrust.org/heritagegrants Arts and Culture Venue Grants This program supports projects with the purchase, construction, renovation or expansion of an arts and cultural facility or space, as well as the purchase of equipment that is essential to operating the venue. Next Intake: December 7, 2017 February 1, 2018 ourtrust.org/venuegrants Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs This program supports local projects that provide additional value to Basin communities, and that benefit the broad community and public good. Funds are adjudicated and distributed by local governments. 6 Columbia Basin Trust Columbia Basin Trust supports the ideas and efforts of the people in the Columbia Basin. We take our lead from the residents and communities. Whatever the situation calls for, we adapt our role: from providing resources, bringing people together, to leading an entire initiative. While our range of services, programs, initiatives and financial investments is extensive, our purpose is straightforward: we exist and act for the social, economic and environmental well-being of the Basin now and for generations to come. Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance The Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA) administers and manages a suite of arts and culture granting programs on behalf of Columbia Basin Trust. Funding from the Trust s arts and culture programs is for all arts disciplines and includes grants to individuals as well as to arts and culture organizations in the Columbia Basin Trust region. Applications are adjudicated once a year by local arts councils and the CKCA Steering Committee. The CKCA has a steering committee of 12 members from around the Columbia Basin, elected for two year terms. Applicants interested in applying for arts and culture grants through CKCA are responsible for reading the CKCA Funding Policies and Guidelines before submitting an application. Applications must be complete and received by the deadline date; incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. To facilitate fairness and equitable access, hand delivered applications will not be accepted at the CKCA office. Results will be mailed after May 31, Information, funding policies and application forms are available online at basinculture.com. Working with community arts councils, individual artists, performers, heritage workers and cultural organizations, the overall goal of the CKCA is to build long-term sustainability for artists and to strengthen and support arts, cultural and heritage organizations.
