2 Application guidance notes The aim of the scholarship initiative is to enable people in retail and associated sectors to fulfill their aspirations and realise their potential. Applicants will be expected to tell us what they want to achieve by attending the Oxford Summer School Academy. In the interest of fairness, applicants should be aware that if their company has been awarded a scholarship in the past two years, they are unlikely to be successful. Qualifying Criteria Applicants must be employed by, or be the owner-manager of, a retail business with fewer than 5000 employees. We are especially interested in applications from: o o o Middle Managers typically candidates who have been identified as individuals with high potential by their organisation s and in line for potential promotion to more senior management positions Store Managers Assistant store managers from large stores Applicants must have a minimum of five years service in the retail sector*; however it does not need to be with the same employer * The retail sector comprises any retail business, including online or multi-channel, selling goods to the public, as well as the trades and businesses associated with retail - wholesale, distribution, manufacturing and services to retail. Employer Support Your employer is encouraged to support your application by agreeing to give you paid leave to attend and to reimburse your out of pocket expenses e.g. travel. In addition to the fully funded scholarships there are also 50% funded scholarships available.
