When you are ready to complete the application and have drafted your answers using this PDF (with your Program Partner and team members): Use the link provided to you during the registration phase to access the Wizehive Application System. This is the system used for the NCWIT AspireIT Round 7 Application Create a log-in and password for this system (applications are collected through a different system than the Aspirations.org where you completed registration) Save log-on information so that you can access your application at a later time if necessary Please carefully read the following sections and questions in the application below. At the end of the actual AspireIT application, you may save a draft to work on at a later time (due no later than March 17, :59p.m., EST) or submit your application immediately.

AspireIT Application Round 7 Please carefully read the following sections and questions in the application below. At the end of this application, you may save a draft to work on at a later time (due no later than March 17, :59p.m., EST) or submit your application immediately. Section 1 A selection committee of NCWIT staff and volunteers review and score applications based on the following: The program must: Have a minimum of 10 girl participants and six hours of in person curriculum Utilize one or more of the approved curricula (approval can be obtained for other curriculum during the application process) Focus on information technology and computing Respond to or address a current social issue (i.e.: create an app that shows where to find recycling centers. Use computing and social media to expand access to health needs in under-served areas. Design games to help students learn about hunger issues) Demonstrate to participants opportunities for women in the IT field through college degrees or as a career. Give participants next steps to explore computing after their AspireIT experience Include a partnership with an NCWIT alliance member Participants How many participants does your program expect to serve? * Please confirm that your program will be offered in an all-girls setting * How many hours of programming

per participant do you expect to complete? * Proposed Curriculum What curriculum will be the main focus if your program? (Check all that apply) * Program Description Actimator Agent Cubes-in-a-box Alice/Storytelling Alice AppInventor Desperate Case of the Diamond Chip Harrowing Case of the Hackensack Hacker Bootstrap CSUnplugged Globaloria Google CS First Club Plans Khan Academy Kodu Lego Robotics Pencil Code Pleo Dinosaur Scratch SNAP! Sphero The Foos Yoyo Games GameMaker Other (if other please explain) Tell us about your planned program. What will participants be learning? * Social Issue and Career Discovery The intent of NCWIT s AspireIT program is to allow female students a chance to learn new skills, enjoy some aspects of computing, and to experience firsthand how they might fit in the field. The program does this through out-of- school time learning opportunities taught by teens and young adults who act as near-peer role models. To help achieve AspireIT s aims, each program is expected to: Respond to or address a current social issue with a technology application. Explore opportunities for women in the IT field, whether through a college degree a career. Social Issue In the NCWIT AspireIT program, you have the opportunity to show girls how technology can help solve world problems. Education research suggests that having context, a purpose, and real-world application piques student interest and helps them learn. While some people are drawn to computing because they enjoy the mechanics of coding, others are drawn to it because they can change the world through technology. Some

examples of real world application include: Create an app that shows where to find recycling centers for various items. Use computing and social media to help expand access to health needs in underserved areas. Design games to help students learn about the environment. Create a front-end interface that keeps all your after-school obligations including homework, activities and chores in one place. How will your program respond to or address a current social issue? Add details and example * Career Discovery NCWIT AspireIT programs must include a career discovery component, whereby participants are shown some sample of the exciting opportunities in the Information Technology field. You can explore getting a college degree in computing and/or having a career in IT. How will your program demonstrate career discovery opportunities for women in the IT field? Add details and example. * Program Leader Experience Describe previous program leadership experience of yourself and your team members, especially planning and delivering computing related programs to younger girls or your peers. * How do you hope your program will help further girls' interest in computing? * Reaching Underrepresented Populations Underrepresented in computing means those populations that are underrepresented in the field of computing (both education and industry) relative to their numbers in the general population. Those underrepresented groups are women of all races and ethnicities; African American, Hispanic, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander men; and all persons with disabilities (defined as those with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities). White men and some persons of Asian descent (e.g., Chinese, Indian) are not considered underrepresented in computing because they participate in computing proportional to, or greater than, their numbers in the general population. Along with

gender, race/ethnicity, and disability, broadening participation in computing also includes outreach to persons living with low access to technology and to computing education, such as those in remote, rural and/or high poverty areas. Differences in participation of men and women, various racial/ethnic groups, and persons with and without disabilities are rooted in differences in current and historic participation in education, technology access, formal and informal educational opportunities, and local community support for computer science education and careers, as well as societal biases. Based on the description above, does your program reach a population of girls that wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to learn about computing and IT? If YES, please explain. * If YES- NCWIT may provide an additional $300 in funds (in addition to base funds) to help underrepresented participants to overcome logistical barriers, such as transportation, lack of devices, etc. Would you like to request an additional $300? Program Structure What is your program structure? (Please select one) * Will your program take place between June 15, 2017 and October 14, * If your program will be occurring outside of these dates, please provide an explanation. te: Dates outside the range are subject to approval. * 1-3 Day Workshop After School Program Summer Camp (day or resident) Expo/Fair Other What are your estimated program dates?
