7 HEA and Apprenticeships HEA institutions (Institutes of Technology) currently deliver approximately 66% of the off the job training for the existing craft apprenticeships at phase 4 and 6 Phase 4 and 6 are usually of a minimum duration of 10/11 weeks ( blocks ) 300 blocks in 2017/18

8 HEA and Apprenticeships HEA institutions (Institutes of Technology) currently deliver approximately two thirds of the off the job training (Phase 4 and 6) for the existing craft apprenticeships Phase 4 and 6 are usually of a minimum duration of 10/11 weeks ( blocks ) The HEA provides funding to the IoTs to deliver Apprenticeship blocks ( approximately 25m in 2018) The HEA in cooperation with SOLAS allocate and schedule the Phase 4 and 6 blocks on an annual basis The HEA works closely with the off the job providers to determine capacity to provide additional blocks HEA also works with SOLAS, THEA, QQI and the providers on any issues which arise which are relevant to the funding, governance and operation of apprenticeships

9 HEA and Apprenticeships Review of Curricula of Existing Craft Apprenticeships SOLAS currently reviewing all existing craft apprenticeships Arising from these reviews, changes are being made to the curricula to reflect the up-to-date methods standards required by the associated industries. The HEA are working with the IoTs and SOLAS to identify the equipment and enabling works necessary to allow the new curricula be rolled out 27m investment over 4 year period

11 HEA and Apprenticeships Apprenticeship review conducted in Arising from the review the Apprenticeship Council was established Main function of the Council is to advise on the design, duration, entry levels and ongoing provision of apprenticeships in line with national needs Also advise on the introduction of apprenticeships into new occupations supported by evidence of sustainable demand HEA is a member of the apprenticeship council Review and approve proposals as member of apprenticeship council, particular interest in HE proposals both Public and Private providers Agree funding schedule with Public and Private HE providers based on a Unit Cost Model which includes: o o o o Recurrent Costs Consortia Costs Student Contribution Equipment Costs
