ORGANIZING Knowledge Resources Communication Public Involvement Action Dec 2005 The Chattanooga Way: Creating Public/Private Partnerships that Work for Change THE ACTION The Goal Activate Chattanooga creates a strong partnership with local schools to increase the safety and number of students walking and biking to school through successful implementation of a Safe Routes to School program in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The Objective Hamilton County Safe Routes to School program meets the federal standard for a comprehensive approach by addressing the 5 E s Encouragement, Education, Engineering, Evaluation, and Enforcement. The Plan Create a Timeline Make Progress with Tasks The Activate Chattanooga partners develop an arrangement of tasks and responsibilities with the schools and various community participants to implement the program. Document Your Work Tasks & Responsibilities Group Presentations Description: Person(s) will be available to give presentations explaining what SRTS is and how it can be accomplished to encourage implementation of SRTS countywide. Presentations may need to be given to several groups. Such groups may include neighborhood organizations, school Keep parent/teacher People associations, law Informed enforcement officials, and churches. Press releases will also be included in this task. Responsible Agencies/Persons: Currently RPA & Bicycle Coordinator Delegate Responsibilities Health/Safety Assessments Description: An agency or agencies will conduct initial and post program student health assessments and/or safety assessments to best evaluate program accomplishments and improvements. These measures will need to be discussed. Responsible Agencies/Persons: TBA Need to Discuss Acknowledge Accomplishments School-Parent Coordination Description: Persons will be points of contact, schedulers, coordinators, and organizers for the walk trains, bike buses, ad hoc meetings, rules for each school program and enforcement.
