4 Community Foundation Responsibilities Legacy Foundation seeks to support organizations that make Lake County a better place to live. Enhance the effectiveness of non-profit organizations through: o Capability improvement o Knowledge o Resources Strength and empower non-profits, neighborhoods, and individuals to collectively participate in community transformation efforts.

5 Purpose Transform Lake County To strengthen and empower nonprofits and neighborhoods in Lake County. 6 Review Process Staff and Grant Committee review applications. Staff provides preliminary recommendations to the Grant Committee for review and final funding decisions. The Board of Directors review and vote on all final funding decisions. The awards granted can range from $2,000 - $25,000. Funding decisions are communicated to the applications via approximately 6 weeks after application due date.

9 Toxic Charity o Focus on outcomes If we are serious about significant impact, the missions we invest in must produce measurable results. Due diligence is the cornerstone of wise giving. o Concentrate on tangible, effective results and impact they make

10 Toxic Charity o Change begins in the community with partnerships What is required to transform a neighborhood is geographically focused vision with measurable goals over extended time. o Communities need to work together to envision transformation o Implementing holistic plans with multiple layers (private, public, religious, and secular) and multiple funding streams provides transformational opportunities o Combine outcomes approach and community development to create greatest impact

11 What We Don t Fund Organizations that are not 501c3. Grants to individuals. Scholarships. If you are interested in scholarships please contact our scholarship administrator. Any proposal that promotes a particular religion, political affiliation, or lobbying. A proposal that discriminates based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

12 What We Don t Fund Post-event funding requests. Debt retirement. Fundraisers. Publications, film, audiovisual, or media materials produced for resale. Travel for bands, sport teams, classes, or similar groups. Overnight Trips. Medical, scientific, or lab research.

13 What We Don t Fund: School Grants Legacy does not fund Public, Private, or Charter Schools, Universities, or Private Academies. However, Legacy will fund non-profit groups and partnerships proposing to conduct programs in partnership with schools. Partnerships between non-profit groups and schools is most preferred when the partnership will benefit multiple schools. Partnerships between non-profit groups and schools are preferred when the community can also benefit from the goals.

17 Grant Requests Grants requests should range from $2,000-$25,000. Pre-application meeting with Legacy staff is strongly recommended, especially if your organization has not previously received a Legacy grant. Only one grant can be awarded from each fund in a 12 month period. If awarded a Transform Lake County Grant, you can also apply for a Thriving Hobart Senior Grant. However, you cannot apply for another Transform Lake County Grant until that award has been closed.

18 Understanding Terminology Outcome: Benefits for participants during or after their involvement with the program. o Greater knowledge of nutritional needs as indicated by Output: Products of a program s activities; units of service. o 50 meals provided Indicator: Specific items of information that track outcomes; observable, measurable characteristics/changes that represent outcome achievement. o 30% of participants received a brochure and free meal

19 Desired Outcomes Value in both qualitative and quantitative goals Qualitative: Explain what you want to do and how you are going to do it o Express impact to be made o Be specific Quantitative: Report statistics o Shows scale of impact o Express desired outcome

20 Grant Monitoring

21 Grant Monitoring Grant Review All applications are reviewed by staff and grants committee. Recommendations are presented to the Board of Directors and they determine actions based on majority vote. Due Diligence All grantees are required to provide due diligence documentation, including financial audits, by-laws, list of Board of Directors, and documentation of 501c3 status. Grant Agreement Establishes grant conditions. Must be signed by grantee. Site Visits Legacy staff and/or board will conduct a site visit approximately half-way through the grant period. Final Reports At the close of the grant term, grantees are required to submit a final report with financials. *Organizations are ineligible to receive any future funding from Legacy until all monitoring requirements have been met.
