Our sustainability practices are grouped around three key pillars Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability, with Education forming the common thread amongst the three. We believe that education is not only key in fighting poverty, it also opens doors to new opportunities. Institutional Education and academic skills play a key part in getting better jobs, thus improving the living standards of people and their families. Our company vision is we make moments. The vision comes from the brand values which encompass aspects of sustainability and the environment and thread these through everything our company does.

5 Environmental Sustainability At Mövenpick, we don t just pay lip service to CSR it is part of our company vision. Our sustainability certification partner is Green Globe, and our hotels are put through a rigorous inspection process to prove their credentials, covering everything from energy and water usage efficiency to the use of locally supplied sustainable ingredients in our restaurant food. Green Globe is a global certification for sustainable tourism with one of the most comprehensive criteria there is. It covers sustainable management and the environmental impact of certified companies. We made history in 2016 by becoming the most Green Globe certified hotel company in the world. Its 2015 report recorded our overall average compliance score as 84%, an impressive 2.5 points higher than the 81.5% average across all Green Globe certified members worldwide. By the end of 2016, 63 of our 83 properties were Green Globe certified, with 35 achieving the prestigious Green Globe Gold Member status which is awarded to members that are certified for five consecutive years.

They also need to reduce pollution from soil contaminant, ozone-depleting compounds, erosion, runoff and even noise and light pollution. Even the decoration of Mövenpick s hotels comes under examination with the use of local art, architecture and cultural heritage in their decoration, food and shops while respecting local intellectual property rights being one of the criteria.

It s more than just an environmental programme it goes to educational and social access.

13 Social Sustainability Social Sustainability encompasses community support at large which includes helping institutions focusing on special, primary needs of the community. Our hotels are involved in charitable activities of all sorts and contributing to their surrounding communities, showing that Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts holds these matters dearly at heart. Throughout the year, our hotels are encouraged to provide assistance and support local charitable organisation, to get involved in various community activities as well as support local craftsmanship and suppliers by purchasing products created or produced within the country.

Social Sustainability: Kilo of Kindness One significant activity is our yearly Kilo of Kindness charity drive, which invites guests and the local community to donate food, clothing and educations

14 Social Sustainability: Kilo of Kindness One significant activity is our yearly Kilo of Kindness charity drive, which invites guests and the local community to donate food, clothing and educations supplies to support disadvantaged families around the world. This year, big-hearted guests at 46 Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts properties around the world have donated 8,500kg of food, clothing and educational supplies. The charity drive, which ran from 1-15 September asked guests and residents to drop off at least one kilo of supplies to any participating hotel. These will now be distributed to disadvantaged local communities by the charities each property has partnered with, which range from clothing banks and day care centres to organisations that run or support orphanages and schools for underprivileged children. 15 Social Sustainability: Rigth4Children partnership Shine focus is on Education and as part of our Social Sustainability efforts Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has a long-term partnership with Right4Children. Right4Children is a Nepal-based NGO and through this partnership we aim to give disadvantaged young people access to hospitality training and job prospects; a chance to boost their living standards through skills creation and career opportunities. Mövenpick and Right4Children launched the initiative in 2009 and since then, 132 youngsters have completed the six-month training programme, on one of three tailor-made courses Housekeeping, Culinary Services (chefs) and Food and Beverage Services (waiters).

16 Social Sustainability: Rigth4Children partnership Of those graduates, 85% have secured job placements at a Mövenpick property in the Middle East, with participating hotels to date located in Dubai (Ibn Battuta Gate, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Al Mamzar and Bur Dubai), Jordan (Dead Sea, Aqaba and Tala Bay) and Doha (West Bay), while others have gained employment in the local hospitality industry. The wider impact of this programme is just as significant, with more than 650 family members of participants benefiting from the outcome of their training in terms of gainful employment with regular income. Right4Children aims to provide disadvantaged young people with what they need most access to education and training. The Mövenpick Hospitality Programme has achieved this goal, demonstrating the positive impact the hotel industry can make on underprivileged communities through vocational training initiatives. We look forward to nurturing more talented students and bringing them into the Mövenpick family as future employees, said Craig Cochrane, Senior VP Human Resources, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts.

17 Social Sustainability: Rigth4Children partnership Programme graduates include Radhika Ghatri, Housekeeping Attendant at Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach, Dubai, who was named Employee of the Year in Joining the team at Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach has been a lifechanging experience, said Radhika. It s not only taught me responsibility, but given me the chance to meet with people from many cultures, which has improved my communication skills, and I am immensely proud of these achievements. I will always be grateful for this once-in-lifetime opportunity, which has given me and my family hope for a happy future. Another programme graduate, Niraj Bimali, joined Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel Dubai as a Food & Beverage trainee in May 2014 and in just three years, has worked his way up the career ladder, most recently promoted to the property s Captain of Banquets. I came from an economically underprivileged background and my family could not afford higher education for me, but Right4Children supported me with vocational training, which led to a job with Mövenpick, explained Niraj. I have learned new skills and gained confidence, enabling me to build a career and help me and my family to live a better life.

19 Employer Sustainability: Meaningful testimonies In addition to being a driver of sustainability and living green, Mövenpick Hotel West Bay Doha is also focusing on supporting individuals with special needs and has introduced a dedicated training programme for the students of the Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs. During the two-month training programme, the students learned about the importance of teamwork and time management, whilst nurturing self-confidence. Currently, there are two full-time employees at the hotel from the centre.
