On the one hand, we are happy that he has received the opportunity to continue doing amazing work closer to home and on the other, it is tough to realize that a great member of your team will be gone. Bunpa Lim has served as an Academic Specialist and Multicultural Club Advisor for the last ten years. In this role, he has worked with hundreds of students, helping them achieve their goals. Join us as we wish Bunpa good luck with his new endeavors. We'll have a celebratory potluck January 8th, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Clubs and Orgs room (Second floor of the student center). 1

2 Community Enrichment Project Are you passionate about community service? Are you interested in receiving a grant to reduce the amount of loans you take? If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you Participate in a community enrichment project through Student Support Services. The purpose of the project is not only to benefit our community but also to give students hands-on experience with community service and organizing. Through your participation in the Community Enrichment Project you will be able to gain leadership skills; connect with other leaders on campus and the greater LCC community; and, make connections with local service organizations. To qualify for the grant, you must be an active SSS participant, be in good academic standing and have unmet financial need. The application is available at the SSS office, or through your advisor, and is due January 10th, 2014 at 2:00pm. 3 New Year, New Resolutions 45% of Americans make new year resolutions, and the top three resolutions are to 1) lose weight, 2) get organized, and 3) Spending less while saving more money.* For a lot of students, managing a tight budget or saving for the future can be a difficult task, and although the majority of people may have good intentions of keeping their resolutions, only 46% of people are still working towards their resolution past six months. If you are making a new year's resolution, there are a few things you can do to ensure success. 4 Student Support Services Winter 2014 Cultural Activities 2014 Civic Leadership Conference March 20th, 2014 The Washington State CLC aims to engage TRiO students in civic education and enrichment. This event is held annually and is supported by the Washington State TRiO Association. Each year, students from all over Washington convene to learn more about civic engagement and to share information about the TRiO program with state representatives. We have six spots available for our SSS students. If you are interested in attending, ask your advisor to nominate you as soon as possible. In this workshop we'll go over strategies to organize your information, and provide you with resources to help you apply for scholarships. How do you stand out from thousands of applicants? Join us for this workshop on scholarship essay writing and we'll go over tips to stand out above all applicants. During this workshop, community service agencies will provide you information resources for students. Thursday, February, 13th Time and location to be announced STARS/Scholarship Essay Begin and finalize your application for LCC's scholarships. Not sure what your next step should be? having a mentor in your chosen career field can help you learn about your chosen field and guide you through the necessary steps to be successful.
