2 2015 t i m e t a b l e The aims of these Awards are to encourage the uptake of sustainability reporting to give recognition to those organisations which report and disclose full sustainability information, including environmental, economic and social matters to raise awareness of corporate transparency issues. 31 August 2015 Deadline for submissions October 2015 Award winners decided by the judging panel 26 November 2015 ACCA Malaysia Sustainability Reporting Awards Presentation Ceremony This year, we would like to reemphasise the core elements of sustainability reporting - environmental, economic and social and rewarding organisations that has integrated these core elements into each component of its value chain and strategies to ensure a more sustainable and inclusive growth of the organisation without compromising environment or jeopardising integrity and the needs of future generations. This is in line with the green growth agenda identified as one of the six game changers in the 11th Malaysian Plan - an effort in shifting the paradigm of sustainability from a narrow focus on natural assets to include consumption and production processes in all sectors and households. The ACCA MaSRA also clearly supports and compliments other initiatives in promoting sustainable and inclusive development in the country such as the introduction of FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index end of last year and the government aspiration to achieve 30% women on board by Past Award winners includes Malayan Banking Berhad, Axiata Group Berhad, MISC Berhad, Allianz Malaysia Berhad, British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Berhad, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, UEM Environment Sdn Bhd, Sime Darby Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd. 3 ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards around the world reward companies for excellence in sustainability reporting which includes economic, environmental and social reporting. The core elements of the judging criteria are completeness, credibility and communication. Our Award winners demonstrate that, by emphasising these key elements, companies can target significant improvements in the quality of information disclosed during the reporting process. Ultimately, the ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards help underline the business case for sustainable practices and development. The judging panel comprised of experts within the field of environmental, economic, social and sustainability matters. All submitted reports are evaluated by the judging panel using the agreed ACCA judging criteria. The decision of each panel of judges is made in good faith and is final. The award categories for ACCA MaSRA 2015 include: Best Sustainability Report Best First-Time Reporting Best Sustainability Reporting within an Annual Report Best Workplace Practices During the judging process, judges might give commendation for a particular area which has been exceptionally well reported. In 2014, judges gave commendation for: Sustainability Reporting in SMEs Reporting on Stakeholders Engagement Reporting on Sustainability Strategy Reporting on Diversity & Inclusion The views of the panel of judges are expressed in the Judges Report. It also summarises the strengths of all those reports which won awards and highlights additional examples of good reporting practice. 4 1. What kind of organisation can participate? Any. You can be from any sector, have any type of business and have any number of employees. 2. Does our report have to be from Malaysia to enter? Yes. However, a company not based in Malaysia can submit a report if it is solely focused on a site or subsidiary based in Malaysia. 3. We only release our report on our company s website. Can we still enter? Yes. An increasing number of companies are posting reports on their company web pages and a growing number of entries are only submitted in this format. 4. What format does the report have to come in? There are no restrictions. For example, hard copy reports, CDROMs, videos and website links can all be submitted. The judges will consider originality of presentation among the other criteria when judging each report. 5. Our environmental/social/sustainability performance is only included in our annual report. Can we still enter? Yes. 6. Our report won t be finished until August so we might miss the deadline. Can we still enter? Late submissions may be accepted at the discretion of the judging panel(s). 6 ACCA places sustainability at the heart of business and accounting. For over two decades we have been promoting environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting for businesses as an integral part of mapping their impacts beyond traditional financial accounting practices. We believe accountants are well placed to apply their skills and experience to help their organisations achieve a more sustainable future. Recognising the importance of ethical, social and environmental issues for tomorrow s finance professional, we have developed our syllabus to ensure they are included as part of our ACCA qualifications.
