8 Fintech in ASEAN Fintech Distribution in Asean 2018 ASEAN FinTech Census 87% Expected number of Fintechs planning to scale their operations out of their local markets Data from Tracxn shows that Singapore is home to the lion s share of FinTechs in ASEAN, at 39 per cent. Singapore s developed financial infrastructure and supportive regulatory policies have positioned the country well to compete with other global FinTech hubs, such as Hong Kong and London. Total number of FinTechs 1228 in six countries In the recently concluded EY ASEAN Fintech Census 2018 Report, it was found that a strong 87% of financial technology (FinTech) firms in Southeast Asia are planning to expand their footprint beyond their current markets in the next 12 months. Notably, start-ups face credit crunch at the outset, as most traditional financial institutions are reluctant to lend to companies with track record of less than three years. In Singapore and Thailand, it is relatively easy for FinTech players to access a variety of funding channels. Going forward, respondents are optimistic about funding growth as 47% of FinTechs are looking to raise between US$500K to US$5m 48% of the smaller-sized FinTechs (i.e. players with average rpm less than US$100K) expect their next funding size to be less than US$1m 63% of the larger FinTechs (players with average revenue per month greater than US$100K) expect their next funding to be greater than US$5m in size
