2 Community Involvement Awards The Community Involvement Awards were developed in 1975 to recognize volunteers in Washington County for their outstanding volunteer service. This year marks the 42 nd year of recognizing volunteers for their commitment and is a testament to our community s collective commitment to volunteerism. Thanks to the continued service of individuals, families, groups, and employers, our community remains strong, rich, and vibrant. In 2015, we added families to the group award to recognize the impact of instilling the spirit of volunteerism in the next generation. We also added a new category to recognize employers who support volunteer engagement in their workforce. The Community Involvement Awards provide an opportunity for the Washington County Board of Commissioners to recognize how volunteers contribute to the strength of the community. In pure dollar and cents, the value of a volunteer is calculated to be worth $25.20 per hour in Minnesota, as reported by the Independent Sector. Each year, volunteers in Washington County contribute millions of dollars of service to our communities. We salute all volunteers for their invaluable contributions of time and talent to benefit our community! Selection and Award The Community Involvement Awards selections committee is comprised of award recipients from previous years, the Community Thread Board of Directors and staff, and representatives from Only one nomination from each category will be selected to receive the award. Community Thread reserves the right to honor more than one nomination in the case of a tie. Awardees will be notified and interviewed for communication materials. Awardees will be recognized during a Washington County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, April 25 in conjunction with National Volunteer Week. Community Thread will also recognize awardees at the organization s Celebration of Connections on April 25. All nominees and nominating organizations will be publicized during National Volunteer Week, April 23-29, Award Categories The categories and eligibility requirements are detailed below: Lifetime Award The Lifetime Award is intended to recognize a single volunteer for his or her commitment to volunteerism. To be eligible to receive the Lifetime Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria: Demonstrate dedication, enthusiasm, and exceptional volunteer service with at least two organizations during a time span of 10 or more years. Have breadth and depth of volunteerism which has made a positive impact in the community. Be an adult, 30 years of age or older.

3 Outstanding Volunteer Award The Outstanding Volunteer Award is intended to recognize a single volunteer for his or her commendable volunteer service that meets the needs of the community. To be eligible to receive the Outstanding Volunteer Award, the nominee must meet these criteria: Demonstrate strong volunteer service in at least one organization during a span of 1 or more years. Show dedication and innovation through volunteerism. Be an adult, 19 years of age or older. Youth Volunteer Award The Youth Volunteer Award is intended to recognize young people for volunteer service which strengthens the community. To be eligible to receive the Youth Volunteer Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria: Demonstrate strong volunteer service in at least one organization, event or special project which serves the needs of the community. Demonstrate initiative, commitment, and enthusiasm to volunteerism. Be a youth or young adult, 18 years of age or younger. Group/Family Volunteer Award The Group/Family Volunteer Award is intended to recognize a group or family of volunteers for their outstanding volunteer service that benefits the community. To be eligible to receive the Group Volunteer Award, the nominees must meet the following criteria: Demonstrate initiative, commitment and enthusiasm as a team. Engage in volunteer service as a group or family on a consistent basis. Exemplary Employer Award The Exemplary Employer Award is intended to recognize an employer for encouraging its employees to make an impact through volunteer service in the community. To be eligible to receive the Exemplary Employer Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria: Demonstrate organizational commitment and enthusiasm to volunteerism. Engage in volunteer service on a consistent basis, no less than once a year. Have a location in Washington County and perform volunteer service in Washington County. Legacy Award The Legacy Award is intended to honor the life of a Washington County volunteer who has passed away and left an identifiable legacy in the community. To be eligible to receive the Legacy Award, the nominee must meet the following criteria: Be deceased, at any age, within the prior 3 years of the award. Provided service that made a significant contribution to the quality of life in the community. Resided in Washington County or engaged in volunteer work in a community of
