Learn about, and determine, SFHIP s potential role in new and existing projects that are aligned with SFHIP s priorities. The Steering Committee (SC) approved the December 2013 meeting summary. Frances reviewed updates to the draft Articles of Collaboration based on the SC s feedback at the December meeting. The group discussed SC member term limits and concluded that three 2-year terms will be the Frances will revise Articles of Collaboration based on group SFHIP Steering Committee Meeting Minutes 1/16/2014 Page 2
3 Articles of Collaboration (Frances Culp) 3. Steering Committee Co- Chair Nominations & Process (Abbie Yant) maximum. The SC member coalitions, which include the Chicano Latino Indigena Health Equity Coalition, Asian & Pacific Islander Health Parity Coalition and African-American Community Health Equity Council, provided an overview of their history, work and current focus areas. Abbie reviewed the status of the SC co-chair nominations and detailed the positions role, purpose and responsibilities. The co-chairs will represent the SC at Backbone Committee meetings, which occur once monthly, and will work in conjunction with the Backbone to set the agenda for SC meetings. The time commitment is expected to be approximately 10 hours/month. feedback and provide updated version at the February Steering Committee meeting. SC members will submit additional nominations for the Coalitions/Sectors co-chair seat by Thursday, January 23 rd. 4. Overview of Current Projects Opportunities for Alignment: Tenderloin (Abbie Yant with Reginauld Jackson) Dr. Kevin Grumbach was nominated to represent the Organizations cochair seat; no other nominations were submitted for the Coalitions/Sectors seat. The SC agreed to vote Dr. Grumbach in at the January meeting and then vote on the second seat at the February meeting. Dr. Grumbach s nomination passed unanimously. Building off of discussion from the January SC meeting, the SC agreed to focus on emerging opportunity areas for further alignment in order to move the SC into action. To begin this process, the SC will learn more about two current initiatives: the Tenderloin collective impact project and Shape UP SF s sugar-sweetened beverage campaign (to be discussed at the February SC meeting). Abbie Yant introduced St. Francis Foundation s new collective impact initiative to improve health and safety in the Tenderloin (presentation attached). John Moon and Perry Lang will convene a working group to work with PHI on their proposal. Reginauld Jackson of the Public Health Institute (PHI) presented their proposal to analyze current and prospective community development and related investment opportunities in the Tenderloin and Bayview SFHIP Steering Committee Meeting Minutes 1/16/2014 Page 3
4 neighborhoods and to then strategize with representatives from community development/financial institutions to identify convergence and alignment opportunities. PHI submitted their proposal to three foundations, including Metta Fund and SF Foundation, and the foundations responded that they would fund the proposal with SFHIP s support. The SC agreed that it supports the vision outlined in the proposal but requires further information from PHI before fully supporting. It would like clarification on how the study will utilize prior case studies and how the final alignment plan will include all of the sectors, not just the financial institutions. The SC also suggested amendments to the proposal s methodology, specifically details on leveraging grassroots community initiatives in the study and providing a community-focused solution to the alignment plan. 5. Agenda items for February meeting & Final Announcements Christina Goette announced sugar-sweetened drinks awareness campaign kick-off meeting on Monday, January 27 th, at 4pm at Central YMCA.
