2 Background The abysmal state of sanitation in India is that only 32% of rural households have their own toilets and that less than half of Indian households have a toilet at home. There were more households with a mobile phone than with a toilet. Of the estimated billion people in the world who defecate in the open, more than half reside in India. Poor sanitation impairs the health leading to high rates of malnutrition and productivity losses. India s sanitation deficit leads to losses worth roughly 6% of its gross domestic product (GDP) according to World Bank estimates by raising the disease burden in the country. Children are affected more than adults as the rampant spread of diseases inhibits children s ability to absorb nutrients thereby stunting their growth. A large part of India s malnutrition burden is owing to the unhygienic environment in which children grow up. Poor sanitation and high population density act as a double whammy on Indian children half of whom grow up stunted. The absence of an effective public health network in a densely populated country has resulted in an extraordinarily high disease burden. About 48 per cent of children in India are suffering from some degree of malnutrition. According to the UNICEF, water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea and respiratory infections are the number one cause for child deaths in India. Children weakened by frequent diarrhoea episodes are more vulnerable to malnutrition and opportunistic infections such as pneumonia. With 638 million people defecating in the open and 44 per cent mothers disposing their children s faeces in the open, there is a very high risk of microbial contamination (bacteria, viruses, amoeba) of water which causes diarrhoea in children. Also, diarrhoea and worm infection are two major health conditions that affect school children impacting their learning abilities. By considering all the above said issues, Indian Govt has launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (English: Clean India Mission) and the components of the programme are: a) Construction of individual sanitary latrines for households below the poverty line with subsidy (80%) where demand exists. b) Conversion of dry latrines into low-cost sanitary latrines. c) Construction of exclusive village sanitary complexes for women providing facilities for hand pumping, bathing, sanitation and washing on a selective basis where there is not adequate land or space within houses and where village panchayats are willing to maintain the facilities. d) Setting up of sanitary marts. e) Total sanitation of villages through the construction of drains, soakage pits, solid and liquid waste disposal. f) Intensive campaign for awareness generation and health education to create a felt need for personal, household and environmental sanitation. This Conference organised by CII & UNICEF would establish a platform of brainstorming by concerned experts and the stakeholders who work in the area of water & sanitation. The highlights of this one day exclusive event are: Central and State Governments to provide details about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan where private sector can get associated directly or indirectly as a part of their CSR activities. Presentations by corporates having experience in handling WASH and how they managed the CSR effectively.

3 Presentations by NGOs who are actively involved in Swachh Bharat under CSR initiatives with corporate sector and also on their own initiatives A place for networking between corporate and NGOs which will help them to understand each other better for future partnerships. Eminent personnel from various sectors will be invited to be part of the program and share their views and ideas on CSR activities. The introductory address will ideally scope out an intellectual framework that covers a range of ideas from corporate philanthropy to strategic CSR towards achieving Swachh Bharat. For every session, a conceptual framework will be presented at the start and the moderated debate / the panel discussions will speak to that framework. We suggest any portable equipment like laptop to be taken out every day, at the end of the exhibition. 6 Rules and Guidelines for Decoration 1.1 Shell Scheme stands will be provided in accordance with the specifications mentioned. Please note that the internal dimensions of the Shell Scheme area are approximately 5 cm smaller than the contracted area as the walls are contained within the booth. 1.2 No alterations may be made in the Standard Shell Scheme Fascia No alterations / removal of panels etc. Major woodwork, if any, must have been approved by the Fair Architect before the start of the work 1.3 The following are strictly prohibited Removal of Fascia. Consumption of Alcohol inside the venue Smoking inside the halls Company logo or branding on the fascia Use of electrical flashes, flash guns and neon signs Cloth banners Putting-up danglers from the Fascia Painting, Coloring, Wallpapering, Sticking of Thermo Cole cut letters, Nailing or drilling of panels. If you require assistance in hanging or displaying your exhibits, please consult the Official Shell Stand Contractor. Exhibitors would be Rs.1500 per panel for any damages to the panels. Suspending of items from the Hall ceiling or parts of it Display of Obscene posters & pictures. Gas Balloons. Branding or projection beyond 2.5 mts height. Storage of any kind behind the display walls Digging, Grouting or cutting of the floor Raising the height of the back wall / fascia for promoting the company name / logo No additional stand fitting or display may be attached to the shell stand structure All interior stand fittings must be contained within the shell stand structure, and must not exceed 2.5m height. No free standing equipment may exceed a height of 2.5m or extend beyond the boundaries of the site allocated. Removal of any exhibit during the exhibition period is prohibited Additional Furniture on Hire Exhibitors who book space under the Shell Scheme (Built - up) are advised to contact the official contractor of CII for any requirement of additional furniture. The Contractor will make arrangements to deliver additional furniture directly to their stand. All payments to be made directly to the contractor. Damage caused to the exhibition halls by the exhibitors Once the Exhibition is closed, the stall area must be restored to in its original conditions. Exhibitors must make good any damage caused to the floor, building or other exhibition structure, equipment by paying the actual charges incurred. Exit passes will be issued only after all dues are cleared. Removal of Exhibits Exhibitors are allowed to remove the exhibits from the stalls only after official closure of the Exposition.
