2 What is HIP? The Healthcare Innovation Program (HIP) is an interactive network among members of the Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance (Georgia CTSA) that provides information, resources, and community connectivity to support and enhance innovation in healthcare research, education, and service. Key topics include quality, cost and access to health services across the contexts of providers, payers, and recipients.

5 HIP Faculty Seed Grant Programs Activities FY12-16 (Rounds 1-9) Semi-annual awards ($25k/yr) for multi-institution Multi-disciplinary pilot or complete projects 10 rounds, 24 awards 1,000 participants (applicants, reviewers)

6 HIP Student Seed Grant Program Round 1 January 2016 Round 2 - December 2016 Round 3 January 2017 Grants will fund multi-disciplinary teams proposing innovative research and education projects that address issues of healthcare quality, costs, and/or access. Two categories of grants will be considered: Research investigate a question or develop a technology that improves healthcare delivery quality, cost, or access. Educational - develop an educational program or offering that is focused on healthcare delivery quality, cost or access.

8 HIP Student Seed Grant Program Eligibility A major goal of this program is to stimulate collaboration across disciplines and organizational units. Each proposal must include: Full-time students from at least two different health science academic units (e.g., schools or departments in medicine, nursing, public health, allied health, etc.) AND at least one full-time student from a non-health science academic unit (e.g., business, engineering, computer science, law, etc).

9 HIP Student Seed Grant Program Eligibility Students must be undergraduate, graduate or professional school students at Emory, Georgia Tech, Morehouse School of Medicine and/or Georgia State University (GSU). At least one Emory or Georgia State University faculty advisor. (Funds will be issued to the faculty advisor/mentor).

10 HIP Student Seed Grant Review Criteria The major criteria for evaluation by the review committee will be the creativity, inventiveness and quality of the project. The following criteria will also be included in the review committee s assessment: Project Plan of Action Significance Innovation Collaboration (the extent of inter-disciplinary and inter-organizational collaboration) Requisite skills and experience of applicants Budget (cost effectiveness and availability of any additional support/matching funds) The potential for subsequent extramural funding Potential for success Consistent with the goals of the Healthcare Innovation Program
